I am not...I am not the damsel in distress. I am not some case. I have to work this. I've lived in a cave for 5 years in a world where they killed my kind like cattle. I am not going to be cut down by some monster flu. I am better than that. What a wonder...how very scared I am.

Librarian Warlord

My DH started to make challah when we moved here, because we haven't found the options in DC to be very good. It's been fun to see how his braiding has improved since that first try.

Love is stronger than death and harder than sorrow. Those who practice it are fierce like the light of stars traveling eons to pierce the night.

Oh, P-C, that's excellent news!

Wow. If this keeps up, my heart will stop leaping into my throat as click on Beep Me.

Wouldn't that be cool.

“Not dead yet!”

DH was just lamenting the lack thereof. Maybe I'll have to find a recipe and bake my own.

Cash, Lewis' aunt who keeps kosher has been known to use the frozen challah that you have to allow to rise. It makes for a verra nice sub if you can't get fresh, plus nice warm challah smell in the house.

French toast made with challah is a beautiful thing.

Cash, are you near a Trader Joe's? They have good challah.

Nope. I'm not even sure where the closest one is. I think I'll google Chicago TJ's and find one near our hotel so I can try to stock up while we're there tonight. I can freeze the challah for later use.

We've got a Trader Joe's, Cash. It's not very big, but I'm willing to bet you can find it here.

Thanks, Sail! I'll pop in when I drive through. It's worth a stop.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

Hey, wait, you're in Chicago tonight? And if you're staying downtown, the TJ's is on Ontario just off of Michigan Ave.

They have challah and jalapeño challah -- there's a good recipe here for a breakfast bake with the jalapeño challah: [link] I made it with the regular (non-jalapeño) challah, because I'm a spicy food wimp. Quite tasty.

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l
