Did they warn them that they would be talking to them during the demonstration? I would have thought that it was just the contestant talking to the camera, and wouldn't have been prepared for the questions.

Non-Fiction TV: I Reject Your Reality and Substitute My Own

I suppose he was rattled. Well, I hope that was the problem because as a sushi chef he really should have known the answer!
I don't eat sushi, so what is the difference besides rice?
The rice is the difference. Sushi is vinegared rice.
Sashimi is raw fish.
Sushi has to have the rice but doesn't need to have the fish to be sushi.
I am pretty sure that while sushi can be non-fish, sashimi should be just fish.
Lee Anne makes some really good points in her blog about Alex vs Melissa, btw. (She agrees that the judges pretty much had no choice about sending Alex home, but thinks Melissa deserved the boot more.)

He did say sashimi was rice-less. It was hard to hear because he sort of got cut off by Rocco re-asking the question a different way, so I'm guessing he thought he answered it.

Oh good! I didn't hear that at all - I heard him mumble something about "Well it depends on what kind of sushi you're talking about," but maybe that was in response to a different question that was edited out.

Seriously. She really bugged me when she was saying over and over how much she wanted to be there. Who cares?! This isn't ANTM!
Yes, she was following Leah's advice.
Leeanne has some very good points in her blog about why Melissa's dish was so bad: boiled down to this - if she didn't taste it - she should have; if she did taste it - then she has no palette.

I hate sh*t like that. We just hired someone for an exec asst position and the higher-ups chose the new person instead of the temp we had (who was amazing) because "she seemed to want it more."
