Yes, she was following Leah's advice.
Leeanne has some very good points in her blog about why Melissa's dish was so bad: boiled down to this - if she didn't taste it - she should have; if she did taste it - then she has no palette.

Seriously. She really bugged me when she was saying over and over how much she wanted to be there. Who cares?! This isn't ANTM!
I hate sh*t like that. We just hired someone for an exec asst position and the higher-ups chose the new person instead of the temp we had (who was amazing) because "she seemed to want it more."
I got really pissed at Fabio for saying how he didn't like the Today Show women judging his dish because they had very unsophisticated palates. Excuse me, these are New York celebrities, I think they're familiar with varying cuisines and food of all sorts! It's part of the same attitude that the coasties had towards Chicagoans during the last season.
Grrrr.

Yes! Even if she does like things really spicy she should know that that level of spice doesn't suit a lot of other people and adjust accordingly!
Well, plus - apparently all you could taste was heat; the dish wasn't balanced. (Despite what she said.)

That was Jeff! Not Fabio!
Fabio had talked about creating his dish with his mom in mind.
Loving Fabio!
D'oh! Yes, I should have remembered that Middle Eastern food is apparently not appreciated by New Yorker women.
WTF?
Now I really want to go to the Tunisian restaurant in Chicago and get some ejja. Nom nom nom.

hmmmm wondering if I'm completely booked up while i'm out there for xmas?? I've never had Tunisian food!
That sealed the redemption of Fabio for me. He clearly understood what was needed, but didn't look down on his audience.
