I just wanted to post this here, because I'm proud of my little boy. Twice in the last few days Ryan's faced an upsetting situation.

1. Whenever he goes to bed, he has a froggie comforter (called Bubby) to help him settle in. He actually has two of them, so we can switch them out and wash them as needed. they're not quite identical - one has a sateen backing fabric, while the other has the same fuzzy fabric both front and back. He's developed a preference for the sateen Bubby. Unfortunately, one naptime it was being washed; he rejected the other Bubby and demanded the sateen one.

2. Another naptime, he suddenly announced that his cot was too small and he wanted to sleep in a big bed, which was not really an optino (especially at a couple minutes' notice).

On both occasions there were a lot of tears, No's and "Bú yào" (Chinese for DO NOT WANT). But on both occasions we sat down with him, gave him a cuddle, explained the situation and let him feel upset. On both occasions too, within a few minutes he was able to manage his own emotions and come to terms with the situation.

On the other hand, this evening he refused to be consoled at the prospect of having his hair washed, with tears and resistance throughout. Nonetheless, I'm proud of this little boy. He is so little and sometimes his feelings are so big.

I think I shall occasionally mutter Bu yao in my day to day life from now on. Sounds much more classy in a foreign language than merely petulant.

On a wholly unrelated point, he's taken to requesting the opportunity to check out his nappy every time we change it after a poo.

Feel much better this morning. Slept like a rock, thanks to ear plugs and one of my carefully hoarded Tylenol w/ codeine pills. Time to get productive!!
