And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

I had short ribs in the crock pot all day simmering in red wine, worcestershire sauce, ginger, five-spice, orange zest, and probably a few other things I forgot. The sauce is now chilling in the fridge so I can scrape the fat off and reduce it before we eat. Nom nom nom nom.

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

Bread is pugilese. Crusty Italian.

I like this typo. Should be pugliese (=from Puglia), but I imagine pugilistic bread would be really crusty.

I was planning to have boeuf bourguignon in the slow cooker all day, until I realized that the new recipe I wanted to try require marinating overnight. Tonight I will have to make do with the braised pork with lemon and sage (cooked in milk) that I made yesterday.

Jack Devine stew sounds divine.

It punches you in the taste buds...with deliciousness!

It's very yum.

This ain't bad as other options go.

I'm just annoyed that my lazy-weekend-days-at-home, no-cooking-during-the-week plan has not come to fruition.

Stop working on the weekend!

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

I had ravioli for dinner, which was pretty boring, but then I had pumpkin pie for dessert. I think I've perfected this pumpkin pie recipe now.

Our wings are not tired.

I've been particlularly relishing my solitude today, after a very busy (and social) day yesterday.

Spent the morning in the sunshine on my back deck, sipping coffee and reading houseporn magazines. Then for a dog walk in the hood (we have a lot of training exercises to practice, as we had a session yesterday with the fantastic dog trainer), then back for football. It's weird not having Steve here, but it's okay. I was inspired by all of you foodies and decided to make ad hoc huevos rancheros using a can of Amy's Veggie chili, corn tortillas, two eggs and a little bit of sharp cheddar. First time I tried it and it's a keeper.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

So much world for little Grace! Hooray!

I still have to do laundry and cut my hair. How completely unexciting yet necessary.
