Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.
It was a decently attended matinee, considering. Fewer than Trek, but more than the past other two or three. Vocal--lots of laughing (I think the hoyay was getting to the chick beside me on top of the flamboyant stunts) and very enthused clapping, and the mid-credit scene got a big "ooooh!" out of us all--it's right after the credits start, so you probably won't miss it, but definitely don't leave early.

So I went to see The Sapphires tonight, which is a darling little movie about four Australian aborigine girls who form a Motown girl-band and go to Vietnam to entertain American troops. The sweetest thing is that the screenplay was written by the son of one of the original women who actually did that. And we got a special session after the movie with a guy who's the nephew of the women in the movie.
It's not brilliant, but it's enjoyable and the music is great.

I need to go back and read what y'all wrote about Trek, but I just saw it. So many lens flares. So much stupid.
We saw it last night. Pete spent the drive home ranting about everything that was wrong, dumb, and frustrating, which was entertaining. My take-aways from the movie were: J.J. Abrams shouldn't have been allowed near the Star Trek franchise, Simon Pegg as Scotty is still adorable, and I really like Cumberbatch's voice even if all he's doing is chewing on the scenery.

I actually was okay with Abrams for the first movie. I thought that was well done and saw the movie a 2nd time soon after the 1st.
This movie though really chapped my hide.

J.J. Abrams shouldn't have been allowed near the Star Trek franchise
I don't think Abrams could do a coherent version of Make Way for Ducklings.

Wow, I really missed the disliking-STiD boat, huh? I still thought it was a lot of fun. I doubt I'll buy it like I did the first one, but I'd watch it again on Netflix streaming for sure.
