No studying? Damn! Next thing they'll tell me is I'll have to eat jelly doughnuts or sleep with a supermodel to get things done around here. I ask you, how much can one man give?

Spike's Bitches 44: It's about the rules having changed.

[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

"We're all stories, in the end. Just make it a good one, eh?"

vw bug, congrats on the Honors Medal! The Buffista mention was wicked cool.

I'm at that point in my paper where I think I'm saying something really original. I never am, but it's always an exciting point anyway. Today's endeavour: using slightly complex sociological terms when I'm not sure I completely understand them. Or understand them at all, in the case of 'relations of production'. Also, name-checking British social policies that annoy me and getting to rant about them for credit. Nice.

"And that's why God Almighty gave us fire insurance and the public defender".

Happy birthday, Sean!

And vw, congrats! That is impressive. I love what you wear on the vid and your smile after mentioning b.org, followed by the-so-familiar-sound-of-geeky-laugh-when-BtVS-is-mentioned.

After spending most of the past 7 years of my life around sci-fi and mostly Buffy watchers, I'm the one who thinks it's weird if people don't know this show, or didn't feel anything while watching it. There's the usual moment when they're embarrassed on my behalf for, I don't know, declaring my fandom love with strict face and nothing but seriousness, and then they realize that I'm the one who is embarrassed on their behalf, for not having this awesome experience of fandom in their lives. I still never figured out the look on their faces after the second moment.

Anyway, congrats again!

Love is stronger than death and harder than sorrow. Those who practice it are fierce like the light of stars traveling eons to pierce the night.

vw, what a great profile of you! Plus you look great - especially your hair.

Seska, have fun with the rant.

Sean, happy birthday! Hope it is a good one.

We won’t stop until everyone is gay.

Congrats, vw! Thanks for linking the video, that was cool.

I'm not getting more done today, but at least I'm in a better mood. Plus, I'm dressed cute.

Umm, I'm only an undergrad here, but I do study sociology. So I'm not saying I can understand complex sociological terms yet, but if you want to send me an email and see if I can figure out your theme, you're welcome to do so. Profile addy is good.

"We're all stories, in the end. Just make it a good one, eh?"

Shir, thanks! It's a 6000-word essay, and I don't think it's particularly interesting, so I wouldn't want to bother you with it unless you were really keen on the topic (disability and social policy - which doesn't even interest me, but that's because social policy makes my eyes glaze over. You should have seen me in class this semester. The ceiling tiles in my classroom and I got to know each other well). But thanks for the offer!

followed by the-so-familiar-sound-of-geeky-laugh-when-BtVS-is-mentioned.

Yeah, we really do know that one well, don't we? I like your analysis of what the embarassment is about. It's true - I get so baffled by people who don't know fandom. What a thing to miss out on.

I’m responsible for my own happiness? I can’t even be responsible for my own breakfast! (Bojack Horseman)

I have a phone interview (my first bit of any sort of traction since I started the post-Masters job search) today at 11am EST (8am board time). ~ma would be most appreciated!

Also, in discussing this position with a few people who are on the periphery of it, I have come to understand that the fall is the busiest month for this office. When should I mention that I have a 2 week vacation in October scheduled and booked? Now? Second interview? During the offer negotiations?

That man was going to shank me. Over an omelette. Two eggs and a slice of government cheese. Is that what my life is worth?

When should I mention that I have a 2 week vacation in October scheduled and booked?

After you have accepted the offer unless they ask something in the interview about any conflicts.

I didn't hear about my interview yesterday. Poopyheads. I hope I hear from them today. How long should I give before following up? (They told me to give them till yesterday to make a decision.)

“Not dead yet!”

Oh #$(@&$(*#$&(&@(&!!!

I just called my general physician's office to schedule an appointment for a blood draw. Apparently, I am no longer a patient. Since I've healthy and haven't been into the office in four years, I no longer count.

But I'm welcome to reregister as a new patient although it'll be a few weeks before I can get an appointment. Feh.
