That kind of Russian dance is really all about showing off your chops in astounding tricks. If the dancers can't do the leaps and kicks, there isn't much else the choreographers can give them. It's just not something you can tone down and still have it be itself.

How do they do the costuming for the choreographed numbers? I had assumed that it was provided by the show, but the judges commenting on wardrobe choices make me think that it's under more of the contestants' control than I thought.

Well just in general, culinary schools are male dominated. Then to go to the externships, where the sexism is pretty heavy - and they whole 7 day a week job and late nights as a factor in possibly having a family. I'd think female chefs would need a stay-at-home partner if they wanted a family.

Watching SYTYCD now. I kind of want Janette to win it all. She is just on FIRE in everything. And I loved the whole "I want to be a banker" piece they did with her a couple of weeks back. Made of awesome!

Janette is a superstar. She is so fierce. Jeanine is also made of win. I hated pretty much everything about that Russian dance last night, but I did think that she did her level best to commit to the dance and turn it out when she was on her own. I also think that modified pot stirrer they did was a lot harder than it looked, especially given Chbeeb's weak partnering skills overall. I'd bet folding money that she was having to do a lot of work to hold that position and muscle around those turns while not being pulled off center by Phillip. I wouldn't mind if either of those two won, but I think without a push from the judges that a boy will win again this year, even though the girls are so much better. It took a season long, concerted effort by the judges to push Sabra to the win and I haven't seen anything like that pimping this year.

I'm with you flea. I am really looking forward to seeing Jeanine partnering with some else, i might love her just as much. Even if she doesn't want to be a loan processor.

Christ, Randi and Evan weren't even in the bottom three? But Nigel basically said they can eliminate Philip now, but still take him on the tour? OK.

I still feel like they could have traded out Evan for Vitolio at this point, but meh. I feel like all of the girls are so good, but both Phillip and Evan are so obviously suck-ass out of their own styles, I'm annoyed they've both stayed so long. Meh!

I cannot wait. A friend of mine was at the taping tonight and he better call me and give me the dirt. Two whole hours until I can see it West Coast style. I finished my blog for last night in the interim. It felt good to get some of that Tyce hate out.
