I also think there is a strong possibility of a backlash vote that prevented Adam from winning.
I think Adam should have won, but I was irritated that his name was on Katy Perry's coat when she performed. Simon begging people to vote for Adam after the Top 3 performed was just beyond the pale.
So if I was tired of the AI producers' shenanigans, I might have voted against Adam just because.
Then too, I heard 38 million votes came from Arkansas. That's hard to beat.
I wish Katy Perry would shrivel up and disappear into some deep dark black hole. Preferably super-charged with the Big Red Matter from Star Trek.
Did everyone see how irked Simon looked after the announcement? Poor little Svengali.
Also, a lot of people may have figured that Adam was a lock, so didn't bother to vote.
I think it's a mitzvah at this point, sail. He won't be bound to a contract and he won't have to sing that godawful schlockfest that is the first single.
I thought everyone had some kind of contract that remained in effect whether they won or lost? And the runner up always has an album produced by AI. I mean, Clay Aiken had his album, David Archuleta had his, the dude who came in second to Jordan Sparks (the beat box guy, I've forgotten his name). But, yeah, at least he won't be obliged to record that awful song.
I thought only the winner was absolutely committed to AI-- that's one of the prizes after all, the recording contract. Makes sense that they also try to get the runner-up, but as to actually being bound?
Even if they are, they probably have more freedom than the winner.

tiggy knows this stuff better than I do, but a whole slew of the competitors are now bound to the 19 production company and ... is it Sony? Whichever label it is.
For me, I really only got Adam last night, when I saw him doing KISS and Queen. That's something I'd listen to him do. But ... aside from those groups specifically, which are absolutely iconic, how much glam rock is out there? Th Darkness was a flash in the pan.
He just comes across as a stylist to me -- one with incredible pipes -- but not someone who's going to write songs I identify with.
basically? anyone who gets camera time has signed some sort of contract that 19E gets first dibs with them. that's why Josiah(from last seasons audition rounds) has been taken to court for trying to sign with another label to get out his cd.
so, yes, i'm 100% positive that 19 is well aware of what a potential goldmine Adam Lambert is and have snatched up his contract. he won't get the same amount of press and such that Kris will, but yeah.
