Oh, and did anyone watch Dance Crew last night? It was Britney night, and it was AWESOME. The crews kicked some ass last night. The female dance crew (Beat Freaks?) were amazing.
Non-Fiction TV: I Reject Your Reality and Substitute My Own
This thread is for non-fiction TV, including but not limited to reality television (So You Think You Can Dance, Top Chef: Masters, Project Runway), documentaries (The History Channel, The Discovery Channel), and sundry (Expedition Africa, Mythbusters), et al. [NAFDA]
I'm watching it right now...some AMAZING dancing. Wow!
Vortex, I 100% agree. Beat Freaks and Quest Crew were SLAMMIN'.
Also, Striker's All Stars. Those guys have been stunningly precise all 3 weeks. (And that routine they did the second week with the monkey rolls that had them flying through the air, and one of them rolling under the other 6? Awesome. In every sense of the word.)
So I had PBS on last night and they had a preview for a new series of American Experience films called "We Will Remain" - which is the history of America from the POV of the Native Americans. . .by the way - even the people who are Native American are calling themselves Indians. Is that a re-owning the term kind of thing?
(One touching story from the preview: Wes Studi told the director that his role as Major Ridge was the first time in his life that he got to play a role where he spoke his first language.)
I cannot figure out when this is going to be on tv here.
There are definitely groups who are comfortable calling themselves Indian. There are some who do so ironically. There are some who would get pissed at you for doing so. In short, made of people. As always, it's best to use the name of the individual tribe if possible. And it should, in general, be possible, as discussion of indigenous populations on the whole is often not useful because of the vast differences between tribes.
Thanks for the heads up, though, will definitely try to find it to tivo.
Well, what they are doing is picking specific moments in history and (I think) making a movie from those moments. It looked really interesting.
Also, slowly catching up on the teevee I missed, thanks to infinite replays. Just saw Britney week of Dance Crew. Love! That Beat Freaks routine was awesome. I loved loved loved the male & female sections. D. was all, "I don't think I saw them before" and I was all, "Yeah, you did, you just don't recognize them, all Britney'd up." Still haven't seen the intervening week.
Loved Quest Crew, too. Brilliant and funny. The blindfolded section was made of win.
Will try to catch up on Top Chef today.

It does seem like "Native American" would be as stupid as "Indian," given that they are both terms made up by Europeans.
Yeah. You could say "First Nations" if you had to. As a note of etymological curiosity, many of the individual tribes' names for themselves translate roughly into "The People" which is, well, what they are. I kinda love that.
Top Chef, Restaurant Wars: Radhika really really should have made Jeff be front of house. She would have had control of the kitchen that way and could have moved the ego out of the back room. She was just not assertive enough. I'm sorry to see her go, because I felt she was strong with seasoning. But I don't think she would have made it to the end, and what happened this episode is part of why.
Superbowl: I was glad to see Jeff go. He never grew on me; he'd always start to, and then he'd say something else condescending. I love Fabio, so I'm glad he squeaked in, but I hope he meant what he said at the end and really realized that he needs to up his game. I was so thrilled earlier on when I thought it might end up being just Jeff & Stefan up for elim. And I agree with victor re: Andrea. Hee.
Carla has grown on me some, too. Glad to see her redeem herself. But again, I don't think she's there for long.
Oh, and on a personal note, Hosea & Leah, lying around together and making out is probably not the best way of illustrating how dedicated you are to your significant others. Whatever. I'm over you. You're on the wrong reality show.
