Speaking of Bourdain, the new season of No Reservations started Monday with Mexico being the first trip. Same old Tony, so it was good.

Art Crawl!!!

It was good - that mole he had at Carlos' house looked yummy.

Oh! He was in B'more this week. Nobody can figure out where exactly. He talks about HATING it here in Kitchen Confidential. I think mostly because he couldn't score here easily. Which is CRAZY!

To understand what happened at the diner, we shall use Mr. Papaya! This is upsetting because he's the friendliest of fruits.

I thought the same thing but then he was nice about the dishes he liked at least and stood up for things the other judges weren't crazy about. Maybe he was overcompensating for being new?

Agreed. He's a caustic food critic -- it's his rep, and I'm sure he knows it. However, he stood up for things no one else did, like Jeff's (calling it the stand out when others weren't crazy about it), and I for one was cheering him on.

Bourdain does the canned response, too. None are leaping to mind, but there's been many times I've heard it and recognized it for what it was.

Why couldn't they have had Bourdain fill in!

I'm not certain his schedule would have allowed that, but I am eagerly anticipating the inevitable Toby/Tony quip off that will occurr the next time he's on.

I was glad to see scary girl go, I still can't look at her for too long.

Agreed. Housemate and I think she has gotten less attractive as time has gone on.

However, he stood up for things no one else did, like Jeff's (calling it the stand out when others weren't crazy about it), and I for one was cheering him on.

Yeah, I thought in the end he was quite fair. And saying things for a reason.

Also, Jeff should open a place just for sorbet, his have been such standouts.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Also, Jeff should open a place just for sorbet, his have been such standouts.

Single-dish restaurants are all the rage right now!

I don't disagree with his criticisms, I just think that he's taking the "caustic" thing too far.

Also, Jeff should open a place just for sorbet, his have been such standouts.

Yeah, I'm sure that he serves them a lot in Miami, they must be really refreshing.

So, housemate and I were having a debate last night:

Family style = any time you are sharing dishes (i.e, Chinese food)

or

Family style = where you are all eating from one big dish where the dish is esentially meant to feed everyone (i.e., a big dish of lasagna, Eugene's fish)

Thoughts?

Family style = a big platter of food for multiple people to put on their own plates. Otherwise, you're just sharing your food with someone else.
