Non-Fiction TV: I Reject Your Reality and Substitute My Own

This thread is for non-fiction TV, including but not limited to reality television (So You Think You Can Dance, Top Chef: Masters, Project Runway), documentaries (The History Channel, The Discovery Channel), and sundry (Expedition Africa, Mythbusters), et al. [NAFDA]

I would have been happy if all of the bottom 3 on PR had been cut.

Yeah, the other guy's raincoat was a little bizarre, but at least he *designed* something, with detail. (Weird detail, but whatever.) Hers looked exactly like what it was -- a garbage bag.

Yes. Exactly. And she was such a fucking sad sack about it. I hate that defeatist attitude more than delusional bragging.

The tanorexic wishes he was Christian. But, "girlicious" really???

"Cry havoc and let slip the boobs of war!" -- Miracleman

It's like he thought "hey, I need a catchphrase! Christian had fierce, so I use . . . . girlicious?"

We're very stretchy. - Connie Neil

I loved how #3 used the kale and tomatoes in her neckline--very striking use of color and texture that paired nicely with the yellow of the tablecloth (and at least she chose a tablecloth with some pop to it!). However, I can see why the winner won--the dyeing and bleaching was something I was a bit iffy about at first, but it really produced an interesting look to the fabric, and her use of the other materials (spiral notebook for hooks and eyes was brilliant, imo!) was very innovative.

I also really liked the crocheted top made out of rag mops (now I'm earwormed with "Rag Mop" from the Muppet Show).

Art Crawl!!!

Somebody on TWO said what I just thought about Jerry's designe: it looks like Dr. Horrible's outfit! Down to the white boots. The only (two) differences would be the yellow gloves and that lavendar thing the model wore under the coat.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

it looks like Dr. Horrible's outfit!

Bwah! It so did!

And who knows, NPH could be wearing lavendar gauze under that lab coat...

Art Crawl!!!

Definitely. Lavendar would really suit him.

Art Crawl!!!

Top Design season 2 contestants announced. I hope that the changes they made to the show actually make it a better show.

And her piece looked very finished. Which they love of course.

"We have trust issues." Mylar

So much yummy reality TV last night, so little time.

I was watching SYTYCD and PR last night with real live people, but I was missing y'all the whole time. (Although I did get chocalate souffle from the real people, so that was a plus!)

SYTYCD was a heartbreaker for me last night because Mark had a terrible night. It really is apparent that TPTB want him gone. Country two-step is an unfamiliar (and incredibly hard by the looks of it) dance style that doesn't have the flashy nature of the more vote-getting routines and Tasty's jazz sucked tremendous amounts of ass. And the wardrobe folks put him in a women's tank top? Why? I am scared for the pretty.

I thought Will and Katee were off-the-chain amazing in both pieces. Did not care for the Broadway and they really, really need to give Tasty a break. I know there's been mixed reaction to the Desmond Richardson piece, but I found it gorgeous. And it was insanely technically demanding. I highly doubt that any other couple could've pulled it off. (And even Will and Katee were not completely successful at it - I definitely saw a few struggles, and not just the obvious one Nigel pointed out) I think they paid Will and Katee the highest compliment by choreographing for them just as they would set a piece on dancers from their company. It was fierce!

I thought Gev did better without Courtney than she did without him. He turned it out in that Sonya piece. I really like her work. (I liked the concept of her supehero dance, too. I just didn't like the way that Matt/Kourtni danced it) He was not technically brilliant, but he commits 1000% to every dance he's given. By far the most versatile breaker/b-boy ever on the show. And Chelsie continues to turn it out. Her feet are insanely beautiful. I don't understand why she chose to do a ballroom solo. She's clearly been cross-trained and is capable of doing a solo in another style more suited to it. Maybe they forced her into it because it was supposed to be a solo "in her own style".

Josh was great in both pieces and his solo was fire! Courtney was just ok in both dances. (I thought she was miles better in her first Rhumba with Gev than she was with Josh) And I really felt like she was forcing the chemistry last night with Josh. She came off as cheesy and a little bit of a camera whore (which she never did for me in the past) Her solo was excellent, though. Total redemption from the hair flinging mess she did a couple weeks ago.

Twitch would be going home tonight if it were up to me. His waltz with Comfort was painful. Painful. I have nothing good to say about it other than they tried. And Comfort clearly felt more at ease and had a greater connection with him than she ever had with Thayne or Big Pasty. They destroyed that Dave Scott hip hop and in turn were destroyed by the crack addled monkeys in charge of wardrobe. I felt like I was watching some horrible sci-fi B movie that someone filmed in their parent's basement. And the make up on Comfort was criminal. Twitch's solo was great, but I think Gev and Josh are the stronger dancers coming out of the hip hop/b-boy genre. I never like Comfort's solos, but I think she's been getting better each time. I think she may actually have done enough to eke past Kherington tonight. That would be lovely.

If Mark goes home, I will cry and cry. His solo was interesting and he has the best musicality of any of the dancer's left (even will, IMHO). Although he seriously needs to leave the Queen alone.

I thought it looked like they were dressed for a Flight of the Conchords video.

Yes to all of this.

And this. It looked like that was just a later point in the same routine he did in Vegas.
