Non-Fiction TV: I Reject Your Reality and Substitute My Own
This thread is for non-fiction TV, including but not limited to reality television (So You Think You Can Dance, Top Chef: Masters, Project Runway), documentaries (The History Channel, The Discovery Channel), and sundry (Expedition Africa, Mythbusters), et al. [NAFDA]
I continue to believe that Jessica was just lucky enough to be paired with Will. she would have been gone a long damn time ago if she had been paired with anyone else.
They keep talking about Comfort and the chemistry, but she has had some limp-ass partners. I active shy away from The Gums, and they are in the TV. I can't image what it's like to be right next to them. I also suspect that comfort is getting a little tired of the competition. Her heart doesn't seem to be in it.
I still hate the costume designer. everything except ballroom, they look like whores. really ugly stuff. I mean, what the hell was Kherington wearing with the PVC leggings?
Also, I may have to stop watching RJPANTDC. The addition of the IM messages commenting on the routines is really annoying, and usually sent by idiots.
Yes, finally heels for Kherington. And by far their worst dance of the season. Maybe the shoes stole her mojo?
Finally! I really thought after her first number that she was go to get away with it yet again. And, if you watch her feet in some of the spins, I do think she was having trouble in them.
That was fun! I can see "Bollywood" as a style -- a glitzed up version of some Indian style, like "Broadway" is glitzed up 50s jazz or whatever it actually is. NB: I know nothing about dance.
This is basically the point my housemate made and I have to agree. Bollywood is just as much a style as Broadway.
To me, the top three (Mark/Chelsie, Gev/Courtney, Katee/Joshua) and bottom three (Will/Jessica, Thayne/Comfort, Kherington/Twitch) are the clearest they've ever been. I'm pretty sure Thayne and Comfort will go, but I would love to see Jessica go instead.
I had a tech issue and didn't get to see Gev and Courtney's first dance until this morning (bless youtube). Now that I have, they were definitely my favorite last night. So cute! I just want to smoosh them both.
I really liked the Bollywood dance, and Twitch's part of the Krump too.
SYTYCD: Last night the judging really got in the way for me. I'd watch the dancing, form and opinion, and then get all fussed because of the what Nigel or Mary said. (I felt Mia was being more honest than they were last night in that she actually seemed to be commenting on the dancing in front of her, even if I didn't agree.) I'm not sure why it bothered me last night so much more than any other night.
You know, Shear Genius just isn't grabbing me. We'll see next week when PR airs before it but I find myself with the tv on but just not paying attention to it.
I watched SYTYCD for the first time last night (after seeing the various YouTube clips posted here last week), and I must say that DVRing it was the best way to watch it. That way, I could skip past most of the screaming meemies in the audience (this is why I don't watch Idol, either) and the rehearsal clips and go right to the performances.
I agree with the judges on most of dances, and my favorite was a tossup between the Bollywood number (really well done, with all the energy that was missing from both the quick step and the tango that preceded it) and the map number (very fun!).
(I did a little "Hey, I know her!" when I saw the choreography Melanie, because she was one of my favorite What Not to Wear makeovers.)
I think I'll be tuning into the rest of the season, and watch it the same way I did last night.
TiVo is key for SYTYCD, especially the results show.
The Bollywood was definitely my favorite. Although, if Nigel has been trying to do something like that for some time, as he claimed, wouldn't it have made more sense for a group number?
I don't get the love for the first Will/Jessica dance. It looked so labored. And much as I don't like Jessica, I don't think that was her. And Mia was right the first time--the music sucked.
SYTYCD: I also agree that the judging is horrible this season. For me though, the problem is that they are not acknowledging the choreography shift. I feel like in early seasons the Viennese waltz was, you know, a Viennese waltz. And they critiqued technique with the ballroom stuff. But how can you critique the ridiculous floaty Celine Dion one that Twitchington did? The paso doble is about the matador and his cape, not two matadors. How did the twist even appear in a quickstep?
But, no, every routine has the "fabulous choreography" of "insert name here" and aren't we lucky?
I missed the show last night, but just watched the Bollywood dance on Youtube and got chills. Man, they tore that up!
