Non-Fiction TV: I Reject Your Reality and Substitute My Own
This thread is for non-fiction TV, including but not limited to reality television (So You Think You Can Dance, Top Chef: Masters, Project Runway), documentaries (The History Channel, The Discovery Channel), and sundry (Expedition Africa, Mythbusters), et al. [NAFDA]
Top Chef: Interesting decision.
I was glad of it. I'm not sure what happened to her. She was so strong through 80% of her season and then kind of lost it, and doesn't seem to have shaken it off. And going so ballistic defending something that wasn't actually good? Whatev. I'm over her.
Also, a fucking world of whatev to Tiffany trying to argue that she got shafted because she didn't listen to her options and assumed she was being handed a massive win. Fuck that shit.
I think that she was ultimately kicked off because if her palate/taste was so off that she thought that was a good dish, she's not a good chef. Props for the vigorous defense of her dish, but if it sucked, it sucked.
Yes, I'm not sure what happened to Jen - but she never got back what she had in the first half of her season.
I was rooting around the Bravo Web site last night and Ripert's defense of her (and his condemnation of her attitude) was really interesting. Bourdain's essay about all of this with inclusions of "Wire" references is a rip-snorter.
I felt like there was some weird Daddy dynamic at work with Jen- like after her season she got mentally beat up by a parent or parental figure about her waning confidence so she came out this season ballistic and guns-ablazing.
I think Tiffani was just trying to cover her ass with her team and the judges with that crazy talk. She certainly assumed, but was dumb to do so. That said, I would have loved to see Tom C. mention her remarkable change in attitude toward the kids between her season and this one.
Yes, that would have been good. I also enjoyed the people who got a kick out of spending the night in a museum.
Jen's behavior appalled me. There's defending your work and there's being rudely arrogant, and I thought she was the latter. Plus really dismissive and snarky of the other team.
Did you all hear about the contest they ran in Chicago (I thing just for teachers) where the winner got to spend an entire month living in the Museum of Science and Industry? Too cool.
