They went out on a high note!
Non-Fiction TV: I Reject Your Reality and Substitute My Own
This thread is for non-fiction TV, including but not limited to reality television (So You Think You Can Dance, Top Chef: Masters, Project Runway), documentaries (The History Channel, The Discovery Channel), and sundry (Expedition Africa, Mythbusters), et al. [NAFDA]
Sad to see them go.
Very neat to see Lapland Sweden, though! That's part of my ancestry--my grandfather came from Lulea, about 200 miles south of Kiruna and the next nearest "big city" (population is only 45,000).
I was so glad to see Kevin and Michael (dad/son) making some wise choices and smart moves. Not even trying the techno-sledding and taking the slower option paid off even if they lost the lead -- they finished remarkably well for a last place finish and an extra task.
Kevin looks like he's going to be an awesome competitor -- thinks ahead (phoning ahead to the airline), makes strategic decisions like sharing their lead (which is wise -- if you're the only one on the flight, if you develop some mechanical problem or delay, you can end up irreparably behind), is supportive and encouraging to his teammate father.
I'm liking the shopping channel hosts more than I thought I would -- they ARE smart and competent and actually rather bomb-proof.
I want to tackle Mallory and force-feed her some Valium. She acts like she wandered off the set of The Price Is Right and arguably blew the news about the earlier flight to the other teams by screaming with joy. At least she didn't scare the dog team.
The dog sledding was one of the most fun-looking tasks the series has featured.
and an extra task
Such as it was. Yes, uncomfortable, but only 10 minutes and no chance of messing it up! Didn't even need to leave the clue box area.
That Speed Bump was truly pathetic. I was at least expecting them to have to drive somewhere for a massage!
But that is how so many of the speed bumps have been. Remember the Sauna Bus?
In bizarre reality TV news, last night I dreamed that Adam Lambert was on SYTYCD, and he was really, really good at dancing.
Remember the Sauna Bus?
Right, but it's not like the bus was parked next to the clue box. They had to take time getting there and back.
Interview with Leanne Marshall of Project Runway Season 5
I suspect that often the "extra" task is meant as much as a psychological deterent as an actual significant speedbump. Thus you get stuff like Sauna Bus or feeding Orangutans for a Fast Forward.
Or maybe the organizers said "screw it, we don't have an extra camera crew... okay, make 'em sit in ice chairs for ten minutes and the clue box film crew can cover it...."
