Non-Fiction TV: I Reject Your Reality and Substitute My Own
This thread is for non-fiction TV, including but not limited to reality television (So You Think You Can Dance, Top Chef: Masters, Project Runway), documentaries (The History Channel, The Discovery Channel), and sundry (Expedition Africa, Mythbusters), et al. [NAFDA]
So let's see, no one got hurt this week, so let's make the kids do 3 dances. Bleagh.
I loved Toni on the panel during auditions, so here's hoping she brings the bitchery.
Kent and Anya doing Cha Cha? My First Kiss? Ummm . . . . No. Way too slow. His arms were weird and all over the place. The awful mugging and face pulling was back with a vengeance. There wasn't enough cha cha in the cha cha. The lift was wonky. No.
Also, I liked Master Chef last night. It was Idol-ish without being too Idol. And Gordon Ramsey was super cute.
I have very little excitement about new PR except for the one designer who dresses like Little Lord Fauntleroy. I hope he dresses like that every day, oh please, oh please, oh please, oh please.
Robert and Kathryn and Stacey and war all set to Heaven Is a Place on Earth. Who does Stacey think she is, Mandy Moore? Gah, Kathryn is so gorgeous. She's ridiculous. Robert is really bad at lifts. That one where he flipped Kathryn over his shoulder? Ugly. And this is overwrought, not emotional. Not a lot of dance content either. They keep trying to make this kid happen and he's just not going to happen. He's never there for me at all in the routine. I watched her the whole time.
Ade and Courtney and Jazz again? Well, Tasty does better with Jazz, I suppose. And Dizzy is also good. Too bad AdeChike is so damn boring. What the hell is Courtney wearing. It was cute choreo. Very stylized. I don't know how memorable that will be, but it was well danced. I didn't feel a ton of connection between the two of them. Good advice from Shankdaddy on release through the torso and back. I love when they actually bring critique about the dancing.
OMG Amanda, shut your fucking no-talent mouth!
Hey, I was idly googling Kelly Liken's name (from Top Chef DC) and she was on Iron Chef! She went up against the new dude and lost.
I like Kelly, but seriously, who said "no crying in the kitchen"?
I do not think that Alex stole Ed's pea puree (the idea of it, likely, and probably not even consciously.) I was flabbergasted that 90% of the polled people thought he did. People, please. Though I do not like Alex at all.
Lauren's solo was heaven minus the inappropriate toothy grin. So much control to do that front roll and come up off the ground without letting that leg touch down. Forget about it.
Yay. Marty Kudelka. I'm excited. I don't know the girl in the bowler hat, but she needs to take it off. For real. Jose and Comfort were very cute in the rehearsal. Try a Little Tenderness. Love this music choice. Y'all, he's just not a very good dancer. He's not hitting hard enough. He doesn't groove. He has no swag. This could be a good routine and it's just not working at all. I was bored and he was boring. He looked like a club dancer taking an open level hip hop class at his local studio. Hmm. I would've loved to have seen that with better dancers. Nigel was right, he wasn't crisp enough. His movements needed to be sharper and cleaner. Contrast his moves with Comfort,s and there's just no comparison.
Billy has fallen into a sameness in his solos that's tremendously boring. I think he is taking snippets of a single piece and doing different counts, but that approach is not working for me. I was surprised to find that I really liked Kent's solo. That was a differnt movement quality than he normally brings. Lots of control. Not quite as many tricks as normal. I enjoyed.
Allison and Lauren. This could be phenomenal. Sadly, they got Tyce Broadway. I don't know why this show feels that two girls must always dance Broadway. And Tyxe goes back to the Damn Yankees well. It's his new Chicago. What do the costumes have to do with the dance? They're both very good, but they don't match, so they're dancing side by side but not toghether. Lauren is really dragging ass. She's clearly struggling. You could almost see her lose steam about half way in.

That was my take. And it's not like it'd be the first time someone forgot a key dish at the prep kitchen.

Don't you think if he had, though, they would have shown it there? I guess unless the fridges are cleaned out after they leave for the site.
Kelly: Adding salt does not equal "bold flavors". Ugh.
I don't like anyone this season.
Contemporary for Billy. After hip hop for Jose. Hmmmm. I don't know that he and Ade will blend very well. And Stacey can be hit or miss. Let's see how this goes. Mad World. Good music choice. I wish he'd used the Adam Lambert version. I loved the simplicity of the move where Ade passes his hand in front of Billy's face. And the side by side work starting with the double turns into the plie was just wow. Oh, I love this piece. That was so beautiful. And the blend just worked really well. This is how I hoped he would perform from the jump. Mia. Ewwww. Presumptuous much? Stacey is keeping you on your toes, is she? I hate hate hate hate Mia on the panel. It's not about you, beeyotch.
Jose and Kent are already too much for me, just the idea of it. From This Moment On. But I do love Spencer Liff's choreo. Kent is really good in Broadway. The mugging serves him well. This is all kinds of Gene Kelly fantastic. Just muscular, American guy dancing. I loved Ken't slow turn in attitude. He's gorgeous in this piece. Completely showing up Jose on every level. He killed it. Killed it.
AdeChike and Lauren doing Foxtrot with Jean Marc and Franz. I like that they call her LoFro. That little toothy blonde cheerleader has totally grown on me. Why would you use the Beyonce version of Fever? I want that dress Lauren's wearing. This is the most non Fox Trot-y Foxtrot I've seen. Not enough closed hold, and what there was, wasn't good. And they have no chemistry. I really think AdeChike generates anti-chemistry. There was no smoke. Boring.
I'm still mad at Nakul for knocking Alex out of the competition, but I'm going to try to put that aside and enjoy. Billy and Robert. How could you put those two toether and not give them contemporary. It's a crime. OK, I don't know anything about Bollywood, but I felt like Robert was tearing it up. I would totally cast him if I had to choose. He was sharp and precise. Wow. Billy looked just like a pale little white boy playing dress up.
I want Jose and AdeChike to go home, but I think it may be Jose and Billy.
I am so over this season. Watching week after week of Jose doing the most simplistic dancing (if you can even call it dancing at times) makes me want to throw stuff.
I can't stand Robert and his excessive cheesiness.
Adechike bores me.
At least I got my Billy love back this week, but I doubt he'll have the votes.
Is next week the finale? When I realized it might be, my initial instinct was "Oh thank goodness!"

You know it's bad when I turn off the TV and pick up
Don Quixote.
Also, I liked Master Chef last night. It was Idol-ish without being too Idol.
Finally watched. It shows promise. I don't get why some seemed to cook in front of the judges and others didn't.
And Gordon Ramsey was super cute.
