There is a pattern.

Amen. S1: Allan, S2: Ryan, S3: Danny and Cedric, S5: Brandon.

I respect Mia as a choreographer and she is often on point when she's getting her bitch on with her panel remarks. And certainly some of this pattern has to do with her preference for a more raw, organic dancer rather than someone with impeccable technical training. But on the real? Homegirl has issues with black male dancers. It's been fairly obvious going all the way back to S1 and it's not cute.

"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

Yeah, it's a real problem.

And wrt Alex, I agree that the injury, surgery, and recovery time are all going to be longer than Nigel is saying. I couldn't bear to listen to most of it, so I dunno what other picture he painted, but this is not a good injury. I was wondering to myself if he wasn't ready by next year if his free pass would extend to the year after. But by then he'll be 25, dancing against 18 year olds. I don't know, for the competition narrative.

And for the career, it's a whole 'nother thing. Ballet is a young man's sport and it spits people out. An injury and surgery like that will in all likelihood leave long-term weakness. Even if he fully recovers for normal life, even if he goes back to dance, he may never dance like he did before the injury.

And maybe he'll be fine. Maybe he'll be stronger than ever and the experience will give him fortitude and passion. Let's hope so.

I remain worried. But I'm a negative person, so...

Heartbreak. Ah, Alex Wong just broke my heart. He's such a gorgeous dancer. What a shame.

I wish him the speediest of recoveries. I hope he gets it all back. I hope for his sake that he doesn't go back on the show even if he's ready physically.

The one happy note? It was glorious to have Mark back on my screen.

They really need to give some serious consideration to that So You Think You Can Dance with Mark idea!

Well, this is interesting. I haven't really been taking stock of the dancers, since Alex was clearly going to win. Now I might have to pay some attention!

Argh. To cap off my Thursday-masquerading-as-Monday, there was a power outage last night at my house (a nearby powerstation blew up, possibly due to the unseasonable heat), so TiVo didn't record the eliminations, because the cable box wasn't working. GRR!

Holy heck! I had no idea Adam Shankman was the choreographer for Once More, with Feeling! I was watching David Fury's behind the scenes and they showed him several times! (Nice 'stache, Adam!)
