So I'm reluctantly dipping my toe back into the blogging waters here. I'm still traumatized by the colossal fuck up that was last season's AI, but I have faith that SYTYCD will not let it go down like that.

Non-Fiction TV: I Reject Your Reality and Substitute My Own
This thread is for non-fiction TV, including but not limited to reality television (So You Think You Can Dance, Top Chef: Masters, Project Runway), documentaries (The History Channel, The Discovery Channel), and sundry (Expedition Africa, Mythbusters), et al. [NAFDA]
So I saw the most recent episode: work of art
I disagree with the winner and loser - so maybe I'll keep watching knowing that I will not agree with the judges' decisions. A couple of things:
I was incredibly uncomfortable with Miles' behavior the whole episode. I feel like he needed to be seen by a professional with psychiatric training and I hope he did at some point during the ep. His lack of sleep was painful (he was yawning in nearly every shot) and his behavior was escalating. They need to resolve these issues because I don't find his situation entertaining at all.
Second, I appreciated the artists talking about their process and the thinking behind their creations - as such, I thought vacuum cleaner lady should have gone home instead of tv man (I don't know people's names outside of Miles). Even power cord lady could have been sent home instead of tv man. I thought tv man's set up was pretty interesting.
Third, Victor raises interesting points about minimalism. I am actually drawn to that kind of art (among other kinds of art) and so that is probably why tv man's stuff really worked for me. You know, the judges' also liked the game controller guy - and I would consider that a bit minimalistic in comparison to the others as well.
Mmm. Watching last night's SYTYCD. I hate the "best evah!" hyperbole, they do it every season.
I agree with much of what's been said. The jerky quality of movement Sonya used in Hallelujah really jarred on me... I wanted a quiet and fluid desperation. But they killed it, no doubt. Allison has grown so much.
NappyTabs must go. Shane, why did you have to be an (alleged) molester? Although he was far from flawless.
Shankers' Blue Steel was totally priceless!
I think Adam might have hit a nerve in the cheerleader. Whether she does anything with it, We'll see.
Anya is sex on a stick. Wowza. Kent did respectably well. That little move at the end takes ridculous quad and ab strength, damn. Nigel, if Anya's a cougar you are the cryptkeeper.
Ashley full-on committed.
I wanted to like that last routine more than I did. Still adore Robert.
Travis, surprisingly cliche and heteronormative concept. Step it up, Peanut.
OMG what is Cat wearing?!
It's like some monstrous melted Laura Ashley Christmas dress from 1990.
I thought that Judith (wire lady) should have gone home - because she really no game with her thing. At least the woman who did the display had some sort of concept -even if it didn't work.
I was surprised that they sent Truang (sp?) home.
Really wanted Nichole to win - loved her piece.
I thought that Miles' tiredness was more about him shutting down than being actually tired. . .but of course, he was also tired.
Last week's challenge was a classic art school thing. I admit that once I got through the required 3-D design class I never went near anything sculpture like again: was this week's challenge a classic in found object type sculpture classes?
I think this show is going to be a roller coaster ride in terms of the week-to-week medium changes. It's going to be a blast.
I wanted to watch the Art show but it conflicted with something else and the rerun was on too late for me. I'll catch up on line. I think it is an interesting experiment.
Phooey. Severe weather here meant that I missed the opening group number (of SYTYCD, that is) because of storm coverage. What did they do, and was it worth watching?
Jean,
I can't answer the first question, I did not like the opening dance.
