Mia was really the only choreographer who shaped her piece to really showcase the two new kids.
Yes, exactly! I thought this too. I wish the other choreographers had followed her lead.

Interesting Open Salon piece on Alex Wong's dance background. There are some fabulous and funny videos of him at various stages of his career. (And some of the choreography will look familiar.) Best one -- 9-year-old Alex tap dancing. Utterly adorable.
I love the goofing-around dances!
I love her just for the dis on NappyTab style lyrical hip hop. Hee and amen, sister! I'd be shocked if Alex won this season, but I am going to love him for as long as he's on.
Hee... the fireflies dance was hysterical! I could watch Alex Wong dance all day!
Oh yeah, he'll never win -- too professional, not enough personality.
YouTube is a veritable treasure trove of Alex videos. Yes, he has even done the "Single Ladies" dance.

Sad but true. And yet, based on the goofier videos, he has tons of personality. He's just not all full of grins and giggles like the hair-flinging cheerios girls.
yeah, but girls/women don't win SYTYCD (and AI either for that matter), so it is really a battle of the boys/men.
Friendly seeming, aww shucks young men who can dance pretty well across multiple styles and show growth are the sort who win. So we will see how Alex fares. The kind of criticism shown about him in tryouts was a little harsh it makes me think the producers are rooting for the high school graduate from Ohio. Even Billy Bell got his ass handed to him a bit. I don't know what that was about.

Well, that's not really true. There have been nine seasons, and girls have four times, which is almost even: Kelly Clarkson, Fantasia, Carrie Underwood, and Jordin Sparks.
It does *seem* that way since the last three winners have been guys, though.
Oh, wow, thanks for that link. I don't have the bandwidth to watch the videos right now, but I am now eager to be at work on Monday!
