American Idol starts again Jan. 12. I can't stand the audition weeks, though. Too heavy on the watch from the hall.

American Idol starts again Jan. 12.

Oh yeah, duh.

I can't stand the audition weeks, though. Too heavy on the watch from the hall.

I only start watching once they have the top groups. I like my talent shows to have talent.

I did enjoy watching the auditions for SYTYCD for this fall (I missed them for S5). If I had skipped them, I would have missed the New Orleans Bounce dancer, who was a blast to watch.

SYTYCD auditions have a much lower proportion of totally embarrassing people. (Though they are not immune to the phenomenon, of course, like blue tights guy in Boston.) They have more of the "really good at what they do but would never be able to foxtrot." There's not an equivalent for singers I guess.

I will probably stop watching the auditions. They have started spending too much time on the judges and their comments during the dance. I almost wouldn't mind hearing them as a voice over, but I don't need to see them.

That was so painful, I was literally cringing.

I hate the Idol auditions. I also didn't love the fake drama they packed into last year's announcements about who made the top twenty or whatever.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

Now that Sex does not audition any more, I can tolerate the SYTYCD auditions. The first year or two, I was really uncomfortable because it seemed like they were exploiting poor mental health. I just don't find that at all entertaining.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

Yeah, the Idol auditions have gone very much that direction it seems, so between that and the annoyance factor I've pretty much stopped watching them.

"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

I totally can't watch the Idol auditions for that reason. In fact, it pretty much turns me off the entire franchise.

Dude! I just bought Top Chef's Kevin's polenta with meatballs off the Schwan's truck! I love Schwans. They also have something from Ilia, LeAnne, Trey & CJ, and...someone else I misremember. We shall have to see how it turns out.
