Exactly. When we use foreign words, we pronounce them according to the original language. Like tortilla, for heaven's sake. No one says "tor-TILL-a."
Well, not exactly. This is often true with Spanish words, but not necessarily other languages, gyro, for example.
How do you pronounce gyro? I always say "YEE-ro."
yep, and roll the r the tiniest bit.

Plenty of people say gyro, as in gyrate. And, even though I know it's not really the way to pronounce it, my instinct is to say it that way because that's how everybody pronounced it in college.
I'm sure there are tons of examples from French.
SYTYCD - I was pleasantly surprised by the blond girl. I have a visceral anti-cute blonde girl reaction because most of them turn out to be hair flipping, competition dancer nightmares a la Kherington. But this girl Channing was lovely. Such a strong, powerful dancer. She lacks a little polish, but she's young yet.
I've slept on it and I still find plaid pants boy horribly annoying. And yet, I can't deny there's talent wrapped up in all that mess. But I can't take a season of him and his ties and his "Look at me. I'm quirky!" thing.
Latest SYTYCD blog is here if anyone is interested.
Also, I frikkin' love Cat Deeley. When is she getting her Emmy? That's all.
I finally got around to reading TWOP's recap of last week's Project Runway ep, and I loved this recounting of the final few minutes of Johnny's bye-bye:
Backstage, Tim Gunn is quivering with rage. Where he would usually at least pretend to be sad and hug the departing designer as he sends him to clean up his stuff, this time he barely even LOOKS at Johnny. Instead, he shoots his cuffs in constrained fury, and gives him a "you take care" of complete dismissal. When Johnny is gone, Tim can no longer contain his anger. "I am incredulous," he says, "of that utterly preposterous spewing of fiction that Johnny did on the runway." Many voices jump in to agree, and Nicolas says he's sorry, but he just snapped and couldn't take it anymore. "It was ridiculous," Tim adds, and who could say it better?
I love your blogs, kat. Just for the record. So much fun.
I ADORE the krumper Russell. It was a crime they made him do choreography.
I actually kind of liked the latin ballroom smarmy guy, Gene. His smarm mostly came off as "omg I am terrified" to me; hopefully he can get over it, because he can really dance.
I kind of wanted to hit Tyce by the end of the show, and I'm really not a very violent person.

He impressed me by doing his audition solo, and doing a great solo. And his reaction when he ripped his number was funny.
Even fast forwarding through the judges as much as I do, which is a lot, Tyce was annoying me. I never need to hear him talk again.
Russell was fucking awesome. I'm so glad so many here agree. I don't think I have ever seen the krump done that well on SYTYCD before. I mean that was some mean ass shit. It was buck for all the right reasons.
