ABDC: It looks to be a good season. I really like the mix of styles they have going here. I know the bboys have an advantage in the genre, and they're just entertaining to watch, but I like having the other influences in there.
While I thought their DoD was better, I don't think they should've stayed over Fresh. Fresh was hot in their first routine and only wound up in the B3 because they were in by far the strongest group, IMHO.
Totally agree with this. Fresh was definitely in the strongest segment by far. But I'll be interested in seeing what happens with the DC crew. I'm glad that Shane called them on their sloppiness.
I think the lack of precision might be an issue for the salsa group, too, because by nature that sort of partner dance doesn't really require crisp synchronization between the pairs.
Top so far is Rhythm City for me. They really brought it, and I felt their piece was really together, well constructed.
Again agree that the judges panel rocks it. I almost always agree with Shane. And the others are pretty great, too. I love their passion for the concept, their love of dance. It radiates in a while different way.
I did not enjoy all the sob stories last night.
Oh My God. I started tuning out once the music changed to the plaintive "here's my hard luck story, you should love me!" portion of the packages. (Remember the crew with the deaf dancer? And the producers managed to get the deafness mentioned every fucking week? I think that was the same season there was a guy with a father in a coma. We haven't heard anything quite that traumatic this year.)

I had to laugh at how out of his comfort zone he was with Vogue Evolution. Normally I like Shane, but I swear one night I'm going to keep a count of how many times he says "y'all." Lil Mama was more coherent than usual - I believe she loves dancing and wants to encourage the crews, but sometimes she starts incomprensible babbling. And JC, well I can't be impartial about JC. I love him.

I swore he wanted to say something like "Y'all are hot", but just couldn't do it.
Shane and Vogue Evolution were just too cute for words. You could tell that he was completely nonplussed and yet at the same time the dancer in him had to give it up because the crew was amazing. He had the best grin just then.
I really, really love Lil Mama and she was tons more eloquent than normal last night which made me kind of sad. She did manage to get a "strengf" in there and to tell one crew how much she enjoyed them when they "leant back like Ciara." And honestly, I think the girl must have been raised by a pack of drag queens. There's no way she should know that much about Balls. When she broke out the "10, 10, across the board/I step out, they all applaud"? I. Was. Dying. She's so fabulous.
But JC is my own particular favorite. Hearing him say "Ante up/Jack that fool" made my entire month. Pure love for that one.
SYTYCD people: What was your favorite routine this season?
eta: (or top 2 or 3 if just one is too hard to pick)
Mine would probably be the Calle Ocho, the addiction dance, and Brandon and Janette's thief dance.
SYTYCD: I guess I'd say Kupono & Kayla's addiction piece. But I don't think the season on the whole was as strong, which is weird because I think there were stronger individual dancers. I guess that says something about what this competition is, though. It's its own thing.
The addiction piece was great, as well as the thief piece, but I also liked Brandon and Janette's rock-n-roll vs. hiphop number, as well as their tango. And I am a big sap for the French music that Mia used for the butt dance, which was really well-performed, so I'll go with that as another fave of the season.
Yeah, we loved that music. Dave went right out and downloaded it.
The Thieves, the one Travis choreographed, the addiction dance.
Seeing last season's dancers doing the Emmy nominated ones reminded me how much more I enjoyed last season. This time the dancers were strong but the choreography was off, or something.
