All Ogle, No Cash -- It's Not Just Annoying, It's Un-American
Discussion of episodes currently airing in Un-American locations (anything that's aired in Australia is fair game), as well as anything else the Un-Americans feel like talking about or we feel like asking them. Please use the show discussion threads for any current-season discussion.

I really really really loved West Wing the first season or two, but these days, i don't even watch it. Sigh.
It was more mock disappointed, Jon. Though it probably wasnt' the best movie to watch late at night while tired--my friend kept falling asleep and waking up five minutes later wondering what happened. :)
And the LA-alike was very cute. Way young, and sadly not LA on the inside. But very cute.
I think the idea originally behind
West Wing
was a good one -- the ways that politics are a series of compromises, how rhetoric and action have nothing to do with each other; how unsleeping freaks love their jobs and burn out and rededicate themselves, but never find the reality as good as their principles.
Unfortunately, Martin Sheen's job got bigger and showier; the moralizing got more and more simplified; the optimism pushed out into Fantasyland; it all took on a tone of sneering superiority; and, after all, it's a lot easier for a liberal fiction to have a dialogue with a disappointing Democrat than with a conservative Republican.
I think the show was destined to become irrelevant, due to the pendulum of US politics. But it didn't have to begin to suck as well; that's squarely on the writer.
Leigh ... a few weeks ago a mate reckons he saw a mention of Firefly in the
t Brainfart
tv book
t /Brainfart
... apparently 9 have snagged the rights to it and will be showing it some time this year. Probably won't start until nearer summer but keep an eye out for it.
6FU had some good episodes in the begininng but then not so much.

saw the pics of the F2F ... babelicious! ;)

I'm just so glad I'm not alone in feeling peevish toward 6FU and WW. It's like it's all professionally done, but the personality behind the show is distastefully supercilious. Joss doesn't bore at your skull with the rightness of his worldview, thank god.
Okay, I take back the nice things I said about 7. Just noticed those wankers are repeating "Tabula Rasa" tonight but screening a new ep of Angel tomorrow night.
Just broadcast the doggamn shows already, ya fucking mooks!
Edited to add:
to make matters worse, Buffy's on half an hour later b/c of the season premiere of
Crossing Jordan
In the Land of the Long White Cloud, we have Lies My Parents Told Me coming up tomorrow night on TV4. Can't wait. (The same channel runs Angel the following night but I'm not sure where they're up to since I'm just watching Angel series 2 on video.)
It's just that their suffering seems so pointless.
Word. They're not even shirtless half the time, just miserable.

Woooo! Wish it hadn't been 9, though, because they have a tendency to air sci-fi shows for five minutes, change the schedule fifteen times and then cancel it because no one is watching.
t /Farscape bitterness
Was Firefly shot for widescreen? Because in the plus column, 9 at least understands about a little concept called 'aspect ratios'.

Ug. I'm singing the song of they're doing it for crossover issues, la la la. But I'm spoiled! I don't care!. I do care about having to watch repeats of annoying episodes.
Re Kennedy: she was being primed as the new bitchy/mouth-not-attached-to-the-brain character. Anya took over from Cordy and because Emma had said she wasn't coming back after season 7, they went looking for someone to take over the role. Alas they didn't count on Sarah not re-signing for another season. At least, that's my take on the character and why she's getting precedence over established regulars.
Leigh ... I share your Farscape pain and your concern about how Nein will treat Firefly. They have an appalling record when it comes to genre shows. I'll give them their due, though, they are consistent, as is evidenced by the crap they're pulling with the Trek shows currently being screened.
I never felt Kennedy was bitchy, though. Just dumb, something that Anya and Cordelia were only with a point.
