Natter 78: I might need to watch some Buffy for inspiration
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, butt kicking, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
I think -t's plan is best.
I'm not ready for morning, and it is almost noon here. I made the oft-occurring error of eating too late in the evening and suffered all night. That said, the coconut curry paneer creation I made for dinner was absolutely delicious.
I made the mistake of not thinking to check my whole calendar and was ready and online for a 745am call with someone in Europe…who did not join because she was out of office today, which was also on my calendar but I hadn’t paid close enough attention. Doh!
I spent Thursday-Monday with friends who are now (mostly) gone, and I guess I have to work and shit.
Mom and Sis and niecephews and I went to a reunion at the church camp we grew up going to (and the kids go to) and mom worked at. We saw a lot of old friends and mom reconnected with now-grown people who's lives she really affected when they were young. Two of them have trans kids (well, trans young adults now) who attended the camp and were there and that's certainly a particular joy what with so many "Christians" being full-time assholes.
I had to drive mom from place to place instead of walk but otherwise it was pretty normal - I even took a header out of a rowboat onto the dock (which I blamed on not having done that in decades but the fact is at 15 I came out on my face as often as on my feet). Both of the naturalists who were on staff when I was a kid made it. One is a biology professor and the other is retiring from his career as an an engineer - and it was awesome watching them climb around in the mud and geek out over turtles and pitcher plants like forty years had never passed. The prof. was talking about how he and his colleagues are coordinating to continue their research and conservation work once their funding is pulled and how the engineer can help now that he is retiring... he's not getting out of this.
Mom will probably sleep until Thursday.
That sounds fantastic and restorative and heart-warmy wholesome, Trudy. So glad you all could do that.
Long weekend with friends also sounds fabulous, Dana.
I did not do a ton, but I did have a very pleasant and tasty one-on-one dinner with a friend on Sunday night. DH and I went to see Sinners (we both really liked; I will see again; one of the coolest scenes evah is alone worth a rewatch) and have dinner on Saturday night. Read a bunch. Watched some stuff.
Yay for restful and renewing weekends!
Feeling that this morning. I have a stupid meeting in 5 minutes and I DO NOT WANNA!
I am oft put to mind of Matt Groening's line from Work is Hell which succinctly summed the whole issue: "They made me do stuff I didn't particularly want to do!"
That sounds like a lovely bunch of reconnections, Trudy.
This wedding was a bit like that though most of the people I have known somewhat shallowly but over a long period of time. That is, I only knew them as they connected to the bride's family, but since I went to a lot of social events by the bride's family going back 40 years, I've seen their kids grow up and them grow gray etc.
My favorite part was hanging out with Emmett and Maggie the girl, who were reminiscing sweetly about their childhoods. Maggie has two children now (both adorable, of course) and will be turning 31 soon. Emmett turns 29 on his next birthday.
Matilda and I got in after midnight but I had to get up early this morning for my monthly Ozempic check in. Officially down 20 lbs, and we're staying at this dosage level since it's still effective. And I'm glad of it because every time I titrate up it makes me extra queasy for a few days.
I wish I could take the rest of the day off, but I have to take Cousin Nikki to the East Bay for her train home, and then I have Pilates at 4:30.
Feeling that this morning. I have a stupid meeting in 5 minutes and I DO NOT WANNA!
I have this Reductress headline (from the page-a-day calendar) pinned above my desk. It is never not true!
David I'm so sorry about Lola and Isabella.
I hate cancer.
