Natter 78: I might need to watch some Buffy for inspiration
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, butt kicking, or physics? This is the place.
Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
Sophia, three of my takeaways from chemo were 1) hydrate! 2) stay ahead of nausea, and 3) support your immune system (take extra steps to avoid infection).
When I started losing scalp hair, I just went ahead and shaved it all off. The only fun was when a few of my relatives mistook me for one of my bald cousins.
Sophia, you could probably do this yourself, but let me know if you'd like a crochted cap or two.
As much as it would upset people at work that I say this, sometimes I get the not-voting thing. Even I, who have spent decades, more or less, all "Go voting--it's your birthday," can't help but see what the political press might call a "marked contrast" between the promise and what I live every day.
Usually, it's not like this, either. Usually I have to pretend I'm psyched about something I settled for, ie, Bidenomics. Some people aren't going to bother, but I do because I'm stubborn af. And changes, unless we're talking Mamdani don't show up very fast...faith in voting is kind of a long-game thing.
Even if I kind of think it's dumb that we still vote on Tuesday because farmers had it on market day
My county only turned out at 33.7%, which seems pretty dismal. I feel like everyone I know votes but I don't actually know that for a fact - do the people I work with or my neighbors? I don't know, we don't talk about politics because that could become terrible very fast, and that has turned into not even talking about civic engagement at all.
def don't get my brother's friend picking getting schnockered over his first ballot, aside from knowing that's alcoholic.
there are lots of opportunities in this state to vote and THEN get wasted.
(Yeah, hire me to write your slogan, it would be awesome!)
That does seem like a "why not both?" situation, without knowing more detail
Just saw your Beep Me, Sophia! I bet you could rock a turban
Sophia, I'll just note that JZ didn't ask me to cut her hair short until the chemo made it brittle and unhealthy. But it never fell out in clumps though it did get pretty thin in places. You might just want to try a short haircut and see how it goes with the chemo.
She didn't wind up wearing a lot of hats, though I do know people who opted for super soft cashmere knitted caps. It will be cold up there.
Peltola is up by +0.29 with 75% of the vote counted.
I know that sounds like an incredibly slim lead but Colom is up by <0.1 in Mississippi with 95% of the vote in. Also Mississippi doesn't do recounts.
It would be astonishing to win both of those, but I'm already very astonished.
I’ve started Salty Pirates
I read that as Salty Pilates because of the gym talk and was very intrigued!
What a glorious night last night and day today it's been.
Sophia -- when I got mine shaved, I tried a wig, and just could NOT with how it felt on my head (I have to cut out tags from shirts, etc., so...), so I ended up with a pretty cool scarf collection. I never got too fancy with the styling of the scarves, but I bet there are some awesome video tutorials out these days for head scarf-ing. And I echo what dcp says about staying ahead of the nausea; I learned that even when I felt fine, it came on quick, so I never skipped preventative meds after that. Am and will continue sending you all of the good vibes.
