Jayne: Yeah, that was some pretty risky sittin' you did there. Wash: That's right, of course, 'cause they wouldn't arrest me if we got boarded, I'm just the pilot. I can always say I was flying the ship by accident.

Fandom means never having to say "But where would I wear that?"

Sorry, didn't mean to freak anyone out. I'm probably an outlier.

Punishingly Intricate

Ooh I was done at 52! Go, being average! Choose being average!

This too shall pass.

I was not at all displeased to be completely done at 47. Maybe because I started so early at 9, or maybe because I had the kids so late. I suspect it was related to my not producing progesterone. I miscarried 3 times before it was discovered that I couldn't keep a pregnancy without taking it immediately at 1 day late. Kinda built in BC, which probably was helpful since I also couldn't take BC, like most meds. I had no history because my mom and both sisters had hysterectomies. Hot flashes were quite annoying, in Florida not helpful, but tolerable since people being a sweaty mess not so uncommon.

I know I have told this before, but a year or so later, when I had my annual gyn visit, I looked up my spreadsheet to see when the last period would have been and found it was 9/11/01. My theory is that the massive emotional hit was enough to push me over the hormonal edge.

Where do you come from? Where do you go? What is your scene, baby? We just gotta know.

Tom, I’d love to hear more about the bookbinding class.

It was a one-off class for Coptic binding. Really simple, no glue. Just two hours of punching and threading. It was the first time the instructor was teaching this class. The result was kind of sad looking, because Tom Scola + Sewing = Janky. But maybe, I'll practice some more and make some zines.

Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

Oooh! Scola zines!

I have successfully achieved menopause at 56 on my third try. First I went 11 months without a period and then got one. Next time it was 10 and then got one. This time its been almost 14 months so I think I'm in the clear.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

I am in favor of zines!

I don’t remember when the menopause took for good. Oh, wait, I have a record…looks like I was 51. Sorry to sop up earlier-than-averageness

That's neat, Tom.

I was lucky with menopause even though it was due to hysterectomy at 38. In fact, bonus was no more migraines, which were highly manageable with Excedrin and long, dark naps, thank god, but it was still nice not to have them anymore.

Smooth transition to Tylenol-only for your mom, -t.

My dentist is so awesome. Got a crown yesterday, and I can't even tell today. Amazing. It was a bit sore last night as we got pretty close to the nerve, but 100% normal today.

I'm currently in a group chat where four of us are trying to nail down one, single date for dinner, and it is getting pretty hilarious. People are now just throwing out a date, and the responses are coming in single phrases. "Good" "Trial" "Chatham" -- so far, no four "goods" in a row. Into mid-November...

"The Senate today have voted to make me a god in Palmyra. They'll put a little statue to me in the temple, and people will bring offerings to me, asking me to bring rain or cure their father's gout. Tell me, Livia: if I'm a god, even in Palmyra, how do I cure gout?!" Augustus, "I Claudius"

Cool, Tom! As a retired librarian, I feel guilty for not even knowing what Coptic binding is. Thanks for the link.
