Aww happy birthday both. Wondering whats going on with Sophia and the house, and how smonster is—haven’t heard from her in a while!
Mom’s surgery has been scheduled for next Tuesday, so that’s good. Sister just left and brother should be arriving shortly. Sister or niece might be able to come down next week but for now I’ve got the day off and can wfh the day after…
Ugh. So the timer switch thing on my water heater/radiant heat thing broke and was just 24/7 heating my house (unnecessary right now!). Had a guy coming out for maintenance of it, anyway, so he looked at it and he said they’d call with the part info and schedule a repair guy. They didn’t call the past two days so today I called them and they said sure, you have to pay for the part ahead of time and then they’ll schedule, it’ll take a week to get the part..$330.
Yall I can buy a newer stronger version of this part at Home Depot for $33 and have it tonight. I can buy a used old version of this part (because my system is 20 years old) on eBay for $35. What the actual fuck. I asked her to have the parts department call me and explain. Because seriously??? I understand a markup but a TEN TIMES markup???
(Replacing it does require some re-wiring so I am not capable of handling it)
That does seem a bit excessive in the way of materials markup.

Good grief, meara. I hope there is an option for you to already have the part and just pay for a service call.
That's bonkers, meara! Unless the price for the part includes the labor and everything for the repair somehow? Which doesn't seem like a sensible way to do things, but it's all I can think of.
My mom's primary PT came to the house yesterday, so she has some more exercises to do. He asked how the fall happened and she told him the whole story and he said something like "oh, it was a freak accident" which was gratifying and then my dad pointed out the hole in the wall from the top of the stairs which made him say "Holy cow" which was also gratifying. Now that everyone has seen the hole and taken pictures, Mom does want to fix it, btw. Maybe still a plaque, we'll see.
