I'm just waiting to see if I pass out. Long story.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Enjoy, Laura!

Our wings are not tired.

It was absolutely delightful. Hot sun, cool breeze, and calm lake. Tonight we have great nephew's first soccer match of the season. Then this weekend the annual Fire Department Steak Bake fundraiser. Big event with tons of raffle items, music, food, booze, and frivolity. End of season activities.

From Press, yes I see that Bridget has passed. I shared a seat with her on a bus ride to something at the SF F2F. This is very sad news. Too young.

I hate that being honest about, like, my disabled life or what's really wrong with the safety net(Social workers aren't protective the way people imagine, in my experience, at least) make abled women strangers bust out the sad emojis. (I mean. I guess it is sort of sad, some people really do need that sort of protection and support, and they don't get it either, but for me, it's like "Wow, let's get a time machine and warn President Gore that sometimes these people are just neurotic, paper-pushing pinheads." It's hard enough to face these things yourself without having to cope with the end of their "America leaves nobody behind," illusions, too. (Not that I posted the pinhead assessment on an acquaintance's page, or anything. And I am sorry that the person handling my file is, well, not someone I'd call with any other option, ever. But it doesn't help to have a stranger feel sad about it.)

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Oh, that's very sad about Bridget. I saw her fairly often over the years as she would come in to SF from Sacramento. Though I don't know that I've seen her since the pandemic.

When I worked downtown we'd have lunch when she came into The City.

That's so young to die by a stroke.

I've barely seen her in person, just at the F2F I think, and I don't think I even posted with her much here, somehow, but we got to be pretty friendly on FB. Shocked and sad.

Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

Aw man. Bridget.

It was nearly a week later, and she was far too young - but there goes our third fabulous soul.

I once asked her why she'd moved to Minneapolis. She said that when you grow up in North (iirc) Dakota, that's the big city. It was a perspective I'd never considered before. Then she went on to San Francisco, then Sacramento. She took the world by leaps and bounds.

I'm sorry to hear that. Although I can't say that being in this world right now feels like such a bonus, but she won't get to see if we make it better, either--the loss of possibility is also part of what's hard, right? And I know one day I'll be looking for her thoughts on my socials and have to relearn this all over again.

Fandom means never having to say "But where would I wear that?"

Timelies all!

I'm not sure I remember Bridget, but it's sad all the same.

Also on Team Can't have things on my neck. It's something that seems to have cropped up after I turned 50. I find myself tugging on the neckline of many of my T-shirts.

We got home from L.A. on Tuesday night. Tomorrow we fly down to Austin to visit Mr. S. We fly back Sunday.

Thrive to spite them

My mom fell again. Her doctor thinks she has a pinched nerve and when she bends over to do things like spit after brushing her teeth the nerve gets pinched and causes the weakness in her legs.

Thankfully she is staying home mostly until she gets an MRI and the results.

In other good Mom news she has agreed to see an Independent Living place here. It's 25 mins from home but 15 from work and...6 mins from the comic book store. (Not that she cares but I thought it was interesting. ) she has an appointment Tuesday and I'll go with her. Now I have to convince her to let me or M drive her from our place to the the IL place. I can't get her to agree with us going to get her and drive her but I think I can get her to maybe agree to that.

I got really insistent last week when I saw her that she needs to be closer to me. I know finding new doctors and moving away from her small social network will suck but it's a 2 hour round trip up and down a mountain to see her and frankly I don't want to keep doing that. Especially as she gets older.

And we have to get M's mom an appointment with her doctor about her memory. She made an appointment and then it didn't get put on a calendar and it was forgotten about. I told M he has to to step up and he doesn't want to (I get it his mom is difficult and he has extreme anxiety about doctors) but I am not caring for his mom as well.

He and his mom went out Friday I think and took my car and the dog. I didn't care I was happy to be alone in the house. When they got back M and his mom went inside different ways. About 30 mins later she is looking for the dog. He was outside , she'd closed the car door on his leash and just didn't notice at all. M heard a dog barking but thought it was the neighbor's so didn't investigate.

And I have to make an appointment to talk about HRT.
