My sourdough starter Doughn* survived the road trip to the cottage and I have figured out a so-far ant-proof but also breathable way to store her on the counter. (Stab plastic wrap with knife, cover open jar with mesh drain cover, holey plastic wrap on top, hold in place with metal ring.)
(* I made her out of Buffy)
I keep my fruit out of the refrigerator UNTIL they ripen, and then put them in the fridge
Same, including the avocados. They may have more flavor at room temperature, but are more refreshing chilled. YDFTMV
Impressive, Jess! I hope the ants continue to stay out of Doughn

It took me a ridiculously long time to get that joke, because I was really stuck on the long -o vowel sound of "Doughn" and couldn't make the next leap. Possibly I need more coffee. (I did eventually get it, FTR.)

I am 100% Team Refrigerated (Ripe) Fruit.

I'm just happy to be among friends who are as amused by BtVS puns as I am.
Ants are so annoying. I keep dealing with them finding the dog food—he wants to eat it when he wants to, not when I put it out. I hate to starve him but if I leave it out the ants get to it!
And I love the name/reasoning.
You need a little moat of water around the dog dish, meara! Like a saucer for a potted plant under the dish with a bit of water in it. Maybe a drop of dish soap in the water to really discourage the ants (by drowning them)
Took a fall in the kitchen last night and scared the hell out of my housemate. Nothing broken (on me; the shelving units will need some TLC) but I am not, alas, as steady on my pins as I assured my physical therapist I was last week.
My father had severe ataxia and Parkinson's-like symptoms in the last couple of years of his life; I'm trying not to see The New Unsteadiness as a sign of things to come.
The plus side: I now have both a cane and a walker to shake at The Kids On My (Metaphorical) Lawn.
Update/correction: The fall was last night (Sunday), not tonight.
Bubblewrap~ma to you, Karl. Be careful.
