Oh, hell, I thought I had talked myself into the fish turner and French whisk combo but now I see there are also balloon whisks and maybe that's better? Argh

Well, now I want the colander set. I do not have a good colander. I have my mom's old thin, three-legged thing that I use and have not replaced for sentimental reasons (pretty sure it's older than I am), but I would 100% get the set they are showing. You can never have too many colanders. (I also have a crappy plastic slotted thing and a big and a small fine mesh strainer, so I make due, but... shiny, shiny colander set!)
So, I no help in the deciding department.
I am clearly a peasant with my wooden pasta retention tool.
Putting up floating shelves today for my books. They are super nice looking. Altough my walls are pine planks I decided to get a stud finder to be extra secure. Of course I got home to find I also needed a 9 volt battery. Sigh. At least my nephew has one so I don't have to make the trek to town again.
Yesterday's big project, which I only observed, was taking down some trees. The guy who does it here is amazing and super personable as well. I loved how he worked with his helpers. Super positive. As they secured ropes and so forth he would shout how perfect a job they were doing. Also, totally insane way the hell high up in the sky with a chainsaw. I'll have to post a video. I sent him a few for his collection.
Well, today was supposed to be an in office day but the power went out in our part of town, so now it’s wfh. I am pausing for lunch en route.
I do like those colanders, Jen. I’ll have to check if they are available with discount….
I *can* get them for you wholesale, Jen.
Have lunched and am at the library to enjoy their wifi and air conditioning while I try to remember what work I was trying to get done today....
Timelies all!
A placement has been found for Mr. S. Unfortunately, it's in Texas, but there weren't any options closer that would take him. (Some didn't have the staffing to deal with his behavior, some he was too young for, and one wouldn't take him because his recent behavior was too good.) We hired an agency recommended by the facility to drive him there, which picked him up today.
Hopefully, he will get the help he needs.
Texas! Wow. Well, I hope it goes well for him and the distance isn't too hard on y'all

On the subject of pasta, on Monday I brought up in therapy that I was disappointed with the time I've spent with Matilda this summer. I expected to cook more with her and I can barely get her to sit down with me once a week to watch Hacks. (She's been spending a lot of nights at her boyfriend's apartment.)
So, instead of marinating in that I just told Matilda and we made a date to season the carbon steel pans that she got me at xmas time (so I could teach her how to do that).
We did it last night and then I showed her how to make the bolognese sauce I made for her regularly for lunch in HS. She said she'd made bolognese at school a few times but mine was better. She took three pages of notes and it came out great with leftovers.
Have you heard the good news?! Interpersonal issues can be resolved by direct communication!
It's not Jesus after all.
Also, tonight is my friend Jes' monthly drag show at the bookstore and I've talked Matilda into attending with me.
In Other Exciting News Filled With Domestic Drama: I had to clean all the dishes before we cooked last night and I had pre-emptively ordered Dr. Pooper's anti sink flies potion because they've been gross and breeding in my pipes. Eucchhhh. Hateful little fuckers.
Anyway, I killed them last night.
Apparently our summer outlet sale is waaay busier than expected, so I have agreed to a half day tomorrow in addition to the half days I already had signed up for Sat & Sun. I hope I don't regret that too much on Monday. I have already asked for Tuesday off, so I'll be able to recover then...
Aw, cooking and drag with daughter. So wholesome!
