My boss has finished his part of my annual appraisal and kicked it up the chain. As expected, the 66% weight of the company wide goal on profitability dominates the results. Not so expected: they are apparently saying that our almost meeting the goal (of decreasing our losses) exceeded expectations. Which is nice but confusing. I still think we will not get raises this year, but who knows?

Ugh, so it looks like I will convert to an online only participation for the ACPT this year. Mainly general recognition that I should have been more responsible in my budgeting, and also just because you can do it, doesn't mean you should. Blergh. Anyway, I will miss seeing you guys there in person, but I'll be puzzling along with you online! Philly in 2027, though -- not missing that.
Aw, bummer you will miss the in person, Jen. Responsibility sucks. I hope the online only is still fun!
Has anyone tried the new NYTimes two person word game thing? I haven’t looked into it but it keeps being pushed at me.
I played against the computer. It's fine. It's basically Scrabble.
So the prediction today was for 3-5 inches of snow, and local schools canceled, but the university didn't. So, I drove to campus around 11. Then my students start emailing me, telling me that their other professors (they're in a cohort who all take the same classes) have moved their classes online today, and wanting to know if I'll do the same. Five of the seventeen say that they're not going to come to campus just for one class in this weather. So, I send out a message saying I'm also moving my class online, and then I have to drive back home, because my iPad (which I need to write on for teaching online) was at home.
Back home now, got the iPad set up for class, and annoyed that I just wasted all that time going to campus. If the other professors had told me they were moving their classes online, I would have planned better.
argh, Hil.
That sucks, Hil.
Aggravating, Hil
I have not tried the new NYT thing, I was just assuming it was more or less a version of Words with Friends and I already have that?
Argh. So I tried teaching the class online, using my iPad. When I tried sharing my iPad screen over Zoom, it would share whatever the screen looked like at the moment I started sharing it, but then that image was static -- it didn't change when I changed stuff on the iPad. I spent like ten minutes in front of the camera trying to troubleshoot it, and eventually just gave up -- there was no way to teach the lesson I was supposed to do today without being able to write stuff, and it would be a disservice to their learning to try to do it anyway. So, ended the class after about fifteen minutes, and I guess I'll just be a day behind until I can catch up somehow.
