So I was watching The Great British Bakeoff last night and they had this thing called Hot-Water Pastry Crust. I may try it today, and see if my pie comes out okay.

And now off to the vet. Poor puppy is still sick: I think she ate some of the mat on the front porch the other day. At least that's the only possibility I can think of...

Consuela, are you making a savory pie? For some reason, that's what I think hot water crust is for?

Finished my stupid work and will try not to think about it until Monday.

Fandom means never having to say "But where would I wear that?"

Timelies all!

Going to my MIL's as usual for Thanksgiving. Bringing a pie for us, as Gary's mom is watching her calories.(Health reasons)

I remember the crazy days. 500 posts an hour. Nubmer! Natgbsb

Thrift store was closed, but the bags are in the car and out of the house. PO counter was closed, so one package did not get mailed. Grocery store shockingly uncrowded, in and out quickly. Now food prep.

I was totally boggled when I watched the hot water pastry crust episode. I had never heard of such a thing, and they all seemed like it was something they'd learned at their mothers' knees.

In dining room news, I have sanded and washed and as soon as the timer goes to turn down the temperature on the cranberry quick bread that's in the oven, I'm going to prime. Because the paint came via UPS today, so if I prime tonight I can put color on the wall tomorrow morning in plenty of time before the in-laws show up! /crazy

I made molasses cookies (for the guy who saved my butt on Saturday night with the smoke alarm drama), just pulled pie out of the oven, and made cranberry sauce from scratch for the first time! I also bought an already-cooked turkey breast at the store, because this is all just for "leftovers" rather than an actual "dinner" (which we are going to a restaurant for). Tomorrow, green bean casserole, brussels sprouts, and stuffing. Maybe sweet potatoes too, i have them but haven't decided a plan for them.

Is someone going to make Thanksgiving for you, Suzi? Sick is the worst.

It looks like it is preferred for savory pies, but the reviews I saw on the recipes seemed to indicate it would be fine for either. Less delicate but more crisp, maybe. I may make one crust for each and see how they come out. Anything that doesn't work that well I can repurpose for a quiche.
