I am in the position of writing a letter of recommendation for a student who is probably one of the weakest students I have ever had at the doctoral level. She is in financial need and needs the $$ to finish, but damn if I know what to say in the letter.
Hey, I just went poking about in Tom's photos and found this lovely picture of TNG: [link]
She's so lovely! What a great photo, Tom. If you don't mind, I'm going to save it, and maybe get a print made at some point. (It's so hard to photograph her, she rarely stays still for me, and you can tell in that photo that she's thinking about getting up.)
I did see a "Casita Serenada". So maybe it's FATE!
You can't mess with that message. That's like god talking to you, right there.
le n, can you speak to something like her work ethic? When I can't praise a student's writing or overall academic chops, I look for things I can praise, like their improvement over the semester.
no Burrell.
I cannot WAIT for this student to finish her degree. Seriously. I think I will be 1000 times happier for her to finish than she will be.
2000 times.
I once wrote a letter of recommendation for lackluster student to get a newspaper internship in which I said, "I can't think of anyone who would benefit more from an internship."
Ugh, that's hard le n. I like Ginger's solution.
Good luck with the letter, Le N.
Hey, it's Friday! What are people doing this weekend? How many people get three days?
I'll be running a few errands, but mostly housebound as I get the new cat settled in. Maybe I can get some more unpacking done.
