I don't really have a security blanket... unless you count Mr. Pointy.

All sorrows can be borne if you put them into a story. Tell me a story.

Cash, you have such a kindhearted boy.

Now tagless for your comfort.

It was so hard to try to explain that we can't help everyone. I told him he is helping her by being a good friend to her.

Compassionate boy. Oof, indeed.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Oh, man, Cash. That's a good son you've got, but I don't envy you raising him. I mean, I envy you the joy parts, but when kids make you talk about the heavy stuff so young...

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Such a good-hearted kid.

SARA. You are not an imposter! Go to Spain.

No sara, don't go to Spain.

::shrug::

I tried. It didn't feel real. You should go, then.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

Darby never asks those kind of tough questions.

(Though she did come out of her room looking Very Concerned when the cat was being axe murdered having her nails trimmed.)

You are totally not an impostor! I've met you, and you are you, and you should be sent to Spain. Stat! Or, you know, in the Spring.

I've always coordinated from stateside when we have these meetings not!here. And I know my boss is trying to position me for more projects, less daily ops, more leadership (something I am totally on board with.) So this is a part of that. The last year or so has been deadly, because all I've been doing is fighting fires (sometimes literally,) not really advancing. I've just been needed a lot in spells such that I haven't been able to start anything new because then something else blows up. So I'm fighting against that mental space.

Wow. Writing that out... explains a lot of the weird headspace I've been in this past fall. The firefighting died down, but I was still at alert status. And felt futless as a result.
