"If [so-and-so] doesn't e-mail us, we are off work on MLK Day." I assumed the "if" was conditional -- meaning, if she does NOT e-mail us, we are off work, but if she DOES e-mail us, we have to work Monday.

Your interpretation would be what mine.

The take away should be that you have off on Monday!

That's a sentence that changes completely based on tone of voice. Emphasis one way, it's "if X then Y" but change the tone just a little and it's "By the way in case X doesn't happen, Y."

(I could try typing out what I mean, but obviously that would be pointless because..tone of voice.)

I don't have another *guaranteed* holiday until next Christmas. I'll probably have Thanksgiving off. Other than that, unless you actively ask for it to have off--and it may come out of your PTO--if it's a holiday, we're here. Granted, we're all in blue jeans and watching movies on our computers because the rest of the world is taking the day off, but we're here at work. The managers all blink and say "But you're getting overtime by being here!", as if we should be happy-skippy thrilled to be missing a chance to rest and have some fun.

I go between feeling up and energized and completely tired and uninterested, like, several times a day. I think I need to find places on the outside to go do work (my own work, that is; office time at job is great), so I don't feel like I'm hiding inside a safe, cozy cocoon at home. Not that I want to feel unsafe or uncozy. Eh.
