I don't have another *guaranteed* holiday until next Christmas. I'll probably have Thanksgiving off. Other than that, unless you actively ask for it to have off--and it may come out of your PTO--if it's a holiday, we're here. Granted, we're all in blue jeans and watching movies on our computers because the rest of the world is taking the day off, but we're here at work. The managers all blink and say "But you're getting overtime by being here!", as if we should be happy-skippy thrilled to be missing a chance to rest and have some fun.

Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
Right... Tom, sorry about the crappy, work-anxiety laden night; hope things turned out OK on that.
amyth, feel better.
And there was probably even more.
I go between feeling up and energized and completely tired and uninterested, like, several times a day. I think I need to find places on the outside to go do work (my own work, that is; office time at job is great), so I don't feel like I'm hiding inside a safe, cozy cocoon at home. Not that I want to feel unsafe or uncozy. Eh.
Chatty was unclear.
My 2 co-workers understood him perfectly. I really think I just process stuff differently. It happens all the time. Fortunately (in most cases), I think really really quickly, so what happens is (1) Hear information; (2) think, "That's unusual, given the context/circumstances/situation"; (3) think, "I wonder if this could be understood another way, and if so, what is it?"; (4) more or less puzzle out what the intended meaning was. That all happens in a second or two.
But it happens ALL THE TIME. I'm getting much better at realizing I misunderstood, though. In the past, I used to misunderstand stuff and then just be befuddled or -- even better -- respond based on what I *thought* the person said, and then be horribly embarrassed for being so stupid.
Honestly, if you put Sheldon and Abed in a blender, you'd get me.
I've been brain dead the past couple days and belatedly (see:brain dead) it occurs to me that missing my regular SSRI from Sat to yesterday may have something to do with it. There was a prescription snafu which took an extra day to resolve.
Re Kathy A: including the reduced staffing at her job, this is the start of primary season, so it's likely she's extra-special busy. But I'd like to hear from her just the same!
Is there a good way to send a followup email about a job? I applied before Christmas, they said they got the resume, and applicants should expect to hear back within three weeks. With the holidays in there, I wasn't too worried, but now I'm wondering if I should nudge?

Then I probably would've picked it up by tone; I totally see what you're saying. Yay, coping mechanisms.
Honestly, if you put Sheldon and Abed in a blender, you'd get me.
Could be worse. Put Abed and Britta in one, and you get me.
Well, actually, you'd get a really gooey mess, if they weren't fictional, but if you did some sort of melding thing with their brains, but not in a Vulcan way, you'd get me.
To be clear.
I wasn't too worried, but now I'm wondering if I should nudge?
Yes, nudge. "Hi, there, I'm just following up--do you have an updated schedule for the process, now that the holidays are over?"
The advantage to this is that they remember your name, and you are being polite and not entitled.
Thanks, Consuela! That's exactly what I needed to know.
