Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Sounds about right to me, given all those circumstances.

Halloo. She came back from lunch. That's a big deal.

I am SO not clicking that link.

The fetuses aren't chewing. FYI.

"It didn't taste good. It tasted soooo horrible. It tasted like....a vodka martini." - Matilda

'Course, that's a marriage of a Scots word and a French one, so not really English, so much.

Pfft. It's like you've never even *met* English.

English is promiscuous and will breed with any language.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Sounds about right to me, given all those circumstances.

Nah, that's fair. Now I'm semi-considering leaving early, because why not, but maybe I'll save that for Friday. Of course we're all leaving early tomorrow, to go to the bar.

English is promiscuous and will breed with any language.

My office's Virtual Library has a quote randomizer which includes a quote about how English will drag another language down a dark alley, beat it silly, and then ransack its pockets for spare vocabulary.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

Strega,

you make a lot of sense, but the "Lost" bitterness thread (at least when I read it) didn't exclude positive comments and it was a fun ass thread! The consequence in "Lost" is that it drove a LOT of people away.

English is essentially language's equivalent to a transvestite.

Hee--from Tom's link:

English is essentially Pictish that was attacked out of nowhere by Angles cohabiting with Teutons who were done in by a drunk bunch of Vikings masquerading as Frenchmen who insisted they spoke Latin and Greek but lacked the Arabic in which to convey that. --Bill Hammel
