It was a, what-you-call battle of wills and blood was spilled. Vendettas were sworn. It was a whole-- Fred: My God you're so full of crap. Spike: Yeah. Okay.

Now tagless for your comfort.

I'm sadly ice creamless.

I think I have a life to ice cream, Kat. Makes it more likely, even if I feel like crap.

YAY! I do hope you don't feel like crap.

Cashmere, you should come here and have ice cream (and beer. We have pretty yummy beer).

Fun quote from an email about me from a former student. She sent it to a colleague (she's going to Occidental)

As for my classes, every freshmen had to choose a "Cultural Studies Program" or CSP which all contain 16 students. I selected "Magical Realism and the Fantastic in Latin America"...I was also able to mention the connection between Franz Kafka and Borges in one of our discussions. I was surprised to hear only three other students knew of Kafka. So, it felt kinda cool when the teacher asked if any of us knew of him, and I was able to give a quick synopsis on "The Metamorphosis" and how the grotesque and gothic novels relate to the idea of the "fantastic" in Borges' work, thanks to Ms. G. ^__^

I feel that Ms. G's class prepared me a lot for college level writing. Her classroom style is a lot like how the classes are here. You're given a syllabus and are expected to the assignments on the syllabus on your own. When I heard four pages, I was actually really excited because I've done a handful of those, haha. There is also a lot of help offered by the teachers.

Dana's hotel internet isn't working. I think we all can agree that this is pants.

I'm eating a giant vat of watermelon and honeydew. Theoretically, I know that watermelon comes in shades other than red, but when I have bright yellow fruit of this consistency, I really expect it to be pineapple.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I have a five ingredient vanilla in my freezer which goes very well with rum cream. Very nice indeed. But I'm keeping my palatte free for my just deserts.

I got into a mild tiff out there in the world wild web beyonds with a woman who told another wife not to take too many vacations without her man, or she'd lose him.

And why would she want to spend time away from her BFF/SO? He's just so much cooler than everything else she knows!

As a singleton, bfah! I'd like to think I'm not just a consolation prize, hung out with when marrieds can't find their true other. Sometimes, both with and without their SO, they like what they're doing. In fact, sometimes, this friend Might.Even.Think. "I'd like to hang out with ita more right now--back to you in a sec."

Sheeit, I'm stealing spouses or trying to move in with anyone. Just that you want a lot of stuff, and different stuff from different people, you know? If you could only hang out with one person for the rest of your life--perhaps it's them, but YOU DON'T HAVE TO. It's not the end of the world. The rest of us all right here for diversions. You only need to spend most of your time with your SO.

eta: Kat, are you sure you want me there? You already have an SO, and I've been told that should be entirely sufficient stimulation for you.

I would recommend a spa weekend at the Arlington. Beautiful old-style hotel, mineral baths, massages, outdoor hot tub on the mountainside, national park with scenic overlooks nearby to go hiking in if you feel the need for exercise.

That's where I was planning on going, before my business trip to Dallas was canceled. Darn snow!

Of course. Because I contain multitudes....

Also, This from LAPD (they send me spam). Sounds like a good CSI plot.

Decomposed Body Discovered in Downtown Recycling Center

September 10, 2010 NR10448pv

Los Angeles. Workmen discovered a dead body at a downtown recycling center this afternoon, after trash trucks from across Los Angeles County had dumped the afternoon delivery of refuse at the yard.

“Finding a body in the trash is quite rare,” said Lt. Paul Vernon, commanding officer of the Central Detective Division. “We’ve begun our investigation as if it were a homicide, but it is too soon to determine how this person died.”

Workmen at the L.A. Recycling Center, at 1000 N. Main Street, discovered the body among refuse they were sorting in the recycling yard, around 2:30 PM. They called police immediately.

Detectives cordoned off the area and began to sift through the trash to find any reference to the body’s origin. “We’ll be looking at the truck schedules, as well, to narrow down the local origin and the truck that brought in the body,” added Lt. Vernon.

The body was so decomposed that detectives could not immediately determine the race, gender, or age of the person. The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to identify the person and the cause and manner of death. “Until then, this case will be classified as an undetermined cause,” Lt. Vernon explained.

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

“We’ll be looking at the truck schedules, as well, to narrow down the local origin and the truck that brought in the body,” added Lt. Vernon.

ooh, I didn't know they could do that! Noted.

What?

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

I would like to be eating ice cream this weekend. Instead I'll be hosting 7 girls for popcorn and Pee Wee's Big Adventure. TGFMargaritas. Plus we have the start of soccer season tomorrow. And another birthday party on Sunday. And the first day of school on Monday--and yes that means Isaac's first day of kindergarten.

Today after a full day of work including meetings, I took the kids to get haircuts. I am tired like a dawg, but am waiting for DH to come home from DC.

Then I have to find some kids to appear to be fascinated while I read. Plying them with sugar seems like good start.

I can think of two who'd love to be there. Did I mention that I think you should do a reading at the children's book store near me as well? Because I love that store and it would ROCK to have you there.

The feeling you get when your brain finally lets your heart get in its pants.

All-inclusive in JA. IJS.

I approve this plan!

In fact, I believe I shall do just that.

I wish I could just go somewhere to get flensed but none of the whaling ships near me take Medicare.

Yet another Time Warner brownout. I may have to carve some space out of my meager budget for my own ISP. This crap doesn't seem to annoy my parents enough to make them quit Time Warner (although it is a lot of crap. They go hours without and they also try to get my BIL in here to troubleshoot the system a lot.)

I was trying to avoid this for budgetary reasons. Also because I figure brownouts will drive me to be productive offline. But I'm working with a designer for some promo for my album now and there are deadlines so no internet during deadlines is a real problem.

I hope everyone has a swell weekend!
