A suggestion for replacing bread on sandwiches--try using fried green plaintains. It's what Chicagoans call a jibarito.

I wish I could just go somewhere to get flensed but none of the whaling ships near me take Medicare.

Yikes, that's an early frost date. I hope they come through for you. Everyone I know in CA has been complaining about the short season. It rained a lot longer this spring. Though we need it very badly, it also ruined a number of stone fruit crops and made things start later in marginal sun climates like the marine Bay Area.

That sounds delicious, Kathy, but it's still starch. (Not that I'm being good about my low glycemic diet at the moment. Stress around here was too much for me. Need to get back on the wagon again.)

I guess I can eat a lot of fried green tomatoes!

I've heard of techniques for ripening up green ones, too. Also, green ones should work well in salsas and chutneys.

Oh, well, I was thinking the problem might have been gluten. I had my first jibarito just a few weeks ago at a Cuban restaurant (yes, it started out at a Puerto-Rican place, but you can find them at several Latin American restaurants now).

I'll have to try one at a time when I'm off the wagon (like now). It really looks tasty!

Calli: My people have a saying. A man who trusts can never be betrayed, only mistaken.Avon: Life expectancy among your people must be extremely short.

If you are being low carb, the old trick of lettuce wraps works well. If you are allowed a few simple carbs, a very tiny amount of rice noodles or bean threads goes a long way in a lettuce wrap. Then the rest can be be meat/chicken/fish/tofu and veggies.
