Because books.

Worst. Singing. ofthe. National. Anthem. Ever!

Who was that? She looked a bit like a Disney product to me. She has a decent voice, but it was sort poppy for such a majestic anthem.

Not so nice is that I'm about to ruin a Friday morning for a bunch of people because of a series of unfortunate events and an upset foreign government. - shrift

Bob Costas and Matt Lauer just need to SHUT. THE. HELL. UP!

Who was that?

Her name is Niki something...she's like 14? 15? She's sort of touted as some kind of Jazz singing prodigy.

I'm about 12 minutes behind, because I kept rewinding to catch everything that Costas/Lauer were talking over!

"It didn't taste good. It tasted soooo horrible. It tasted like....a vodka martini." - Matilda

SHUT. THE. HELL. UP. is my response to 90% of the Olympics commentary that is not describing the actual event in progress.

It's stopped snowing, and it's so beautiful. A couple-three inches of heavy snow on all the trees. I've lived in the south so long it's always a surprise to me now.

Thinking about this Univ. Alabama Hunstville case. Quite honestly instability is probably not much of a hurdle in attaining tenure - in fact I think in some ways academia fosters instability, or at least accommodates it in ways other walks of life don't. I mean, Hil's advisor's behavior would never be tolerated in a regular workplace. Of course, I'm speaking from a town where a tenured professor killed his estranged wife and two other people less than a year ago at a public event, and in retrospect, the man was looney tunes for ages. There's just such egotism in academia, even among the nice people. Being in a room with faculty is exhausting to me now. All this jockeying for power. And there's so little psychological separation between the self and the job.
