According to Wikipedia, curling has its origins in Scotland in the 1500s, and seems to have been a winter version of golf. It doesn't explicitly say alcohol was involved, but it doesn't say it wasn't...

My brother was bitten by an aardvark.

(technically, and anteater, but aardvark is close enough and more fun to type.)

I was off rum for a while after a run in with bad fish followed by rum and cokes, but over that now.
