I may have to seize the cat.

We'll also be doing a group project in April, and she had us get together with our groups for the first time last night for some in-class discussion. I have to keep reminding myself to work well with others and not dominate the discussion--everyone in the group is really smart, but one is pretty quiet, another is also a bit reticent, the third is really interested in discussing stuff but gets off track, so I was working with the more reticent member to keep her reined in and focused. We gave the quiet guy the task of presenting our results to the class to draw him out more.

I've found there are a lot of smart, quiet people in library school. Who mostly hate presenting in front of a group. It's an odd experience, coming from education, where everybody performs 3 - 5 shows a day and thus is entirely comfortable being the center of attention.

ETA: I failed to mention earlier that all 3 of the projects I've been working on today are group projects. Blech.

It's five thousand for kissing, ten thousand for snuggling... End of list.

Am I wrong in wanting more drama from a former member of this community going on a major sci-fi portal and pretending to have invented it?

(I'm bored and Bob is at school all day.)

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

Who was Fast Eddie here? Or was he Gus?

Punishingly Intricate

Who was Fast Eddie here? Or was he Gus?

That's what I'm thinking.

If there was a Fast Eddie here distinct from Gus, they were puppeting under another name.

I hope Casper is feeling better soon!

if you're ever in a group with deadweight (I should say when you are), don't be afraid to steamroll. Better to end up with a good project than be a good team player, sometimes.

One of the first things that they mentioned to us in last week's professional panel discussion was that our classmates were going to be our first level of library contacts and that we would more than likely be sharing classes with people on a regular basis over the year(s) of acquiring our degrees. I have to make sure I don't get a reputation as a pushy know-it-all.

But, you're right about getting things done when they have to be. I remember my first interview here at my company back in 1992, when my manager, who is a pretty quiet woman, was being a bit hesitant during the interview. I instinctively took over the interview and just started chatting with the info most interviewers want to know dropped in without waiting for her to ask the questions. I guess she didn't mind since she not only hired me then, but hired me again for my current position.

I don't remember the creation of TV Tropes involving any other buffista, certainly not two more who had known Gus for decades, and who were there since Salon. The whole story is false, I'm saying.

Gus, in fact, was not with us at Salon (at least not posting). He delurked rather memorably at the Phoenix, IIRC, from a bar, where he was singing Daniel's Freedom Fries song.
