Thanks, Hec. That had to have been a shock.
I think I figured out the answer to my own mystery, a few years ago. I'm thinking of making it into a movie for Lifetime.

EM totally had a story that was a Lifetime movie. Or actually more like The Parent Trap.
She went to a camp every summer that she was growing up and there was one girl, let's call her Suzie, who she'd known for many years. When she got to camp for the summer she said hello to Suzie and asked her how the year went. And the girl acted like she didn't know her and had never met her and insisted her name was Janet.
Janet asked why everybody kept calling her Suzie. They found Suzie. She and Janet were identical twins put up for adoption at birth, and Janet was just going to this camp for the first time.
The girls bonded and became obsessed with finding their birth mother. They tracked her down in the Manhattan office building where she worked. She came down the lobby, saw the two girls, recognized instantly what was happening and ran back into the elevator and away. She wanted nothing to do with them.
That's amazing.

I figured this must happen some of the time.
If they did make a movie of it, you know that they would happify the ending. I am struck by the remakes of big movies that change/happify the endings for the today's audiences. Ocean's 11 and Thomas Crown Affair come to mind.
Oh dear God....
A Battle for the Ages: Unicorn vs. Robot Dinosaur Tattoo [Geeky Tattoo]
If you’ve seen one fight between a robot T-Rex and a steroidal unicorn immortalized as a tattoo, you’ve seen them all.
That's a hell of a story. The girls must have been upset that she didn't want to meet them, but yeah, that probably happens a lot. But how great they found each other!
Oopsie!
LHC knocked out by ANOTHER power failure
Exclusive The Large Hadron Collider - most puissant particle-punisher ever assembled by the human race - has suffered another major power failure, knocking not only the atomsmasher itself but even its associated websites offline. The machine remains unserviceable at present. However its crucial cryogenics seem to have been unaffected, and no catastrophic damage is thought to have occurred.
...
The exact cause of the fault remains to be established, though in a machine so complex a lot of routine teething troubles are to be expected. However, with interest in the LHC so intense, colourful speculation is to be anticipated.
"Maybe it was a birdy bread-bomber from the future," jokes Chris Stephens of the LHC Portal - referring to the well-known wingnut theory that that the mere possibility of the LHC unmasking certain phenomena engenders forces which act backwards through time to sabotage it before this can happen.
We ourselves find it hard not to suspect the involvement of some pan-dimensional police force, seeking to prevent humanity acquiring parallel-universe portal capability before we're ready to use it responsibly. ®
But how great they found each other!
That's the happy ending.
My friend Pat was adopted and her birth mother tracked her down. The birth mother was so needy and neurotic that it turned out to be a big problem for her, and Pat had to work hard to set boundaries with her.
