If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

Hah! I wish it would have come up, Java, because I could say a lot more about Brownsville but mostly I'd be really interested to know how much public awareness there is of the detention facilites there.

Man, the world, she is small. As if I didn't need the reminder after this summer's trip to the other side of the world. At least 3 examples there alone.

I remember the crazy days. 500 posts an hour. Nubmer! Natgbsb

OK, have people seen the Kay jeweler commercial with the couple in the cabin/house and the storm coming? ANd when she turns to hold him, he's all "I'm right here. voice drops And I always will be." Given the setting, I swear I thought this was a for a new thriller/horror movie. creeps me the fuck out. stupid jewelry commercial.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

every kiss begins with kay...

Which reminds me, for no particular reason, Linux is lynn-ux or lye-nux? I guessed the former and then switched to the latter after hearing other humans. Now I'm hearing the former again.

We have a steering committee meeting to make a product recommendation at 8am tomorrow morning. My boss has not yet seen the final product comparison spreadsheet. He said he'd call me to talk about it. Where? He doesn't have my number.

I've already worked 33 hours this week. If I go in early, either I take the world's longest (and most boring) lunch, or I leave shamefully early. I know he wants me to limit my hours, but I'd still feel like an awful skiver.

LYNN-ux. But I'm academia.

See? I gave everybody here an opportunity to tell me what a bad person I am and nobody did, because I fuckin' rule.

Sophia, that website is fascinating. I, uh, may have to send the webmaster an email sometime soon.

ION (except that it does tend to support my claim that I'm not very good at churchiness, because I am now thinking seriously evil thoughts and not only not stopping myself, but rolling around in them in ragey glory), I think I mentioned on Monday that I really, really kinda wanted to choke someone at work.

After a long, long day today that included lots of cleaning up other people's messes and preemptively diverting potential messes that I knew other people wouldn't be able to handle, I finally got around to checking my voicemails from yesterday. And, sure enough, the person I kinda wanted to choke on Monday went on, after I hung up on her, to behave in an epically helpless and moronic fashion that resulted in a semi-VIP patient and her doctor being left to twist in the wind for three days for NO FUCKING REASON WHATEVER.

No, okay, there was a reason. The reason is that the temp didn't want to get up off her ass and go three yards down the hall to talk to the doctor and nurse who, it turned out, had all the paperwork she claimed she needed so badly and who also had been keeping their ears cocked all day waiting to hear from this exact selfsame patient.

What. The. Fuck. If you don't like talking to doctors or nurses, don't take a fucking temp job in a clinic, jackhole.

Tonight for dinner I am having garlicky wilted spinach and salmon with creamy dill sauce.

this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

garlicky wilted spinach

This may seem like a stupid question, but what's the best way to wilt spinach? I tried steaming it, and it over-steamed and became green mush.

"You can't put a price on the joy of not giving a shit." -Zenkitty

I just use a bit of olive oil and a frying pan.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

My method is to melt some butter, add garlic and a little vermouth (or white wine or lemon juice), let the sauce boil for a minute or two, then take the pan OFF the heat before I add the spinach. Then turn with tongs for a minute or two until almost wilted and remove to a serving platter. The key is to take it out of the pan before you think it's really done, because the heat of the sauce will keep cooking it.
