I always thought the giant space squid was a horrible choice.
I love the psychic space squid because it is so 110% over-the-top ridiculous. I would have paid double the admission price to see it in the film.

A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

Yeah, psychic space squid would have been incredibly difficult to pull off as the climax to a serious dramatic movie.

But also this. Because, come on, GIANT PSYCHIC SPACE SQUID.

This is what I'm saying!
Very tangentially related to Watchmen, this comic made me laugh forever: [link] (It took me about a full minute to get the Watchmen reference. Reading the alt-text helps if you're not like me and remember to read the alt-text.)

EXACTLY. Squids! From! Spaaaaaaace!
I'm a little afraid to reread Watchman now, because I'm wary that how I feel about the movie will change how I view the comic.
The Martha Washington comics do have a Burger War as their initial central conflict, and the title character gets doused with "special sauce" which is their napalm equivalent on her first battle mission.

Ahahahaha awesome.
Non-movie-related, I love this Wonderella strip because that's what "Animal Rescue" sounds like!: [link] (Also the happy sloth.)
And this one FOREVER: [link]

And also for Watchmen to pull off, I'd wager. (You can't tell me that was supposed to be a serious dramatic movie. I went, I saw the Halleluja scene, I busted out laughing...)
