Yeah, psychic space squid would have been incredibly difficult to pull off as the climax to a serious dramatic movie.
And also for Watchmen to pull off, I'd wager. (You can't tell me that was supposed to be a serious dramatic movie. I went, I saw the Halleluja scene, I busted out laughing...)
I went, I saw the Halleluja scene, I busted out laughing...
Seriously, me too. I'm fairly certain there was some eye-rolling, too.
Entertainment Weekly listed that as one of their top 20 unsexy sex scenes.
Now I need to go look up EW top 20 unsexy sex scenes.
I'm a little afraid to reread Watchman now, because I'm wary that how I feel about the movie will change how I view the comic.
I'm currently rereading the comic and I'm fine, except for being sad/angry that Snyder essentially ruined the movie.
I find it deeply amusing that my cousin saw Man of Steel and thought it was amazing and the best superhero movie ever. Demonstration of how, even when most of my family see the same media, we're not watching the same thing at all. (Granted, I am not going to go see it, but I trust your alls opinion a lot more than hers.)
I think the Mostly Film review of
Man of Steel
is rather good:

I am happy to see they apparently do right by the antagonist--both the motivation (hello!) and performance.
