I could probably watch Top Gun again.
Damn, I really don't want his Tom Cruiseiness to ruin Top Gun for me.

A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

I think he was at his best in A Few Good Men, which is one of the only Tom Cruise movies that I liked. But I never liked Tom Cruise even in his hey day, so I sort of feel vindicated for not finding him attractive as a 7th grader (I liked River Pheonix and Christian Slater better)
See, if that white male lead was Jason Statham...maybe. Tom Cruise, never.
I get the feeling that about half an hour of the movie is just Morgan Freeman lighting a cigar in the dark.
Strong agreement with sentiments expressed above.
The last movie I saw him in in the theaters was "Collateral" and I felt I was solid a bill of goods because he wasn't that great in the movie despite reviews.
After that, I've seen him in "Tropic Thunder" at a friend's house. I have not seen any other TC movies since 2004.
The visuals for Gatsby annoyed the hell out of me; I'm not sure why.
Me too. I haven't watched and all the way through because, I don't know, I didn't like the look of it.
I'm not a F Scott fan, though, so maybe I'm not the intended audience.
I saw that War of the Worlds remake Cruise made, but Batman Begins got my ticket money.
I liked War of the Worlds and the first and most recent Mission Impossibles. I don't have a problem with Tom Cruise, really. Doesn't seem like the coolest of actual dudes, but he's hardly unique in that, and he can do some good stuff on screen when he wants to.
He's not a draw for me, but he's not a detriment either.

I agree. He's not a guy I'd want to share a cab with, but I enjoy his onscreen persona.
I'm with Gris and Jessica. I like his Cruise-ness and generally like his movies.
I wouldn't want to share a cab with him, or go on the run from the law (grossly misunderstood hero that he plays) with him either. I tried watching bits of the 'good" Mission Impossibles, and I still want to smack him. Never mind Knight and Day, condescending bullshit.
If he decides to act at any point (and Rock of Ages really doesn't count) instead of appearing in opuses (opi?) crafted to sing his legend unto (that's how God talks) the heavens, maybe. But then again, Magnoliwhatever.
