I saw that War of the Worlds remake Cruise made, but Batman Begins got my ticket money.
Buffista Movies 7: Brides for 7 Samurai
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.
I liked War of the Worlds and the first and most recent Mission Impossibles. I don't have a problem with Tom Cruise, really. Doesn't seem like the coolest of actual dudes, but he's hardly unique in that, and he can do some good stuff on screen when he wants to.
He's not a draw for me, but he's not a detriment either.

I agree. He's not a guy I'd want to share a cab with, but I enjoy his onscreen persona.
I'm with Gris and Jessica. I like his Cruise-ness and generally like his movies.
I wouldn't want to share a cab with him, or go on the run from the law (grossly misunderstood hero that he plays) with him either. I tried watching bits of the 'good" Mission Impossibles, and I still want to smack him. Never mind Knight and Day, condescending bullshit.
If he decides to act at any point (and Rock of Ages really doesn't count) instead of appearing in opuses (opi?) crafted to sing his legend unto (that's how God talks) the heavens, maybe. But then again, Magnoliwhatever.

*hugs Magnolia*
You may have my portion of it, in whatever intangible way that might work out.
I'm with ita on Tom Cruise. Magnolia was the only movie I found him bearable because he character's persona was a overblown parody of the persona he seem to love so much.
I've hated Cruise ever since Born on the Fourth of July was required viewing for a college film class.
