California Supreme Court just voted to uphold existing same sex marriages.

Spike's Bitches 44: It's about the rules having changed.
[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.
But also banning future ones, right?
eta: Which is confusing to me how some may be allowed to exist while future ones are not allowed.
Yeah, but they also upheld Prop 8. I'm so conflicted. It's total bullshit. Up in arms once again on Prop 8. ARGH!
So, GC, you guys are still married, but should you decide to divorce, you can't remarry? That seems like a total Solomon, cut the baby in half type solution that pleases no one.
Glamcookie, I've been thinking about you and DW all morning. It's bullshit that they can somehow say it's okay for *some* gay people to be married, but then no more.
Still -- I'm thrilled for the 2 of you! Are you relieved?
(Am I being inappropriate? I don't mean to be.)
Totally stupid, right? Either you can or you can't. CA Supreme Court trying to have it both ways. Where's the fucking protest?
Are you relieved?
I am and I'm totally not. Hard to explain. Just furious all over again.
Oh god. I'm sorry. I really didn't mean to be inappropriate and offensive. I'm very sorry that I was.
The court decided it did not have the power to overturn prop 8 because the proposition amends the constitution. I don't understand why the court can't say that voters don't have the power to change the constitution to deprive one group of civil rights but I am hpoeful that the next election will have a ballot initiative to restore the right to marry for everyone.
It's not personal for me, obviously, but I feel like this decision sort of cheapens marriage for everyone by making it a "Come now! Act Fast! Limited Time Offer!" sort of thing. That's just my initial reaction. I guess I should go read their decision.
