Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Dealing better than yesterday, that's for sure. Not unrelated to me filling out a painkiller script, I'm sure. The same stressors are there, but it's not feeding a cycle of pain.

Which is longhand for--not too bad, thanks for asking!

You made that call yet? Huh? Huh? I know how Buffistas can be allergic to phones.

Well, my mom didn't freak out when I told her that I'm not eating dairy anymore. I really expected a bunch of questions about how I could get all the nutrients I need. Instead, she offered to take me to the fancy grocery store to get food.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

Humm. I'm gonna try sending my resume for a job I might want, but there's also a phone number, and something tells me I'll have better chances if I'll call before I'll send an email.

I agree with ita. Absolutely call. It shows initiative, and they're much more likely to look at your résumé after talking to you.

ita, I'm glad you're feeling better, even if it's just a little bit better.

So much this. I just made the call, I wanted to be sure the person I need to speak to is there - they only open around 9:00am, which is in a few minutes. I'll send my resume now. Wish me luck, it can be a nice gig.

Yay Hil's mom!

Hil, what is/are good egg replacement(s)?

I'm thinking about becoming more vegan (because I can't ever give up real chocolate and possibly honey), but I have a hard time to think about egg substitute - both for eating (taste wise) and baking. I think that as a first stage, once I'll have enough money, I'll move to soy milk. But I'm unsure about the rest. Plus, I always remember Mark Andersen's remark that collecting wheat mechanically murders tons of grass hoppers each year, so why it's OK to kill bugs?

Egg replacements: for baking, there are a few options. You can use soy milk mixed with a little bit of vinegar, which thickens it. That's best for things that are supposed to be light, like cupcakes. You can use soy yogurt for a sort of in-between texture -- still fairly light, but a bit heavier. For things that are supposed to be kind of dense, silken tofu put in a blender is usually best. There are a few commercial egg replacer products, but I have no idea if they're available in Israel. It really depends on the recipe. (I had a vegan matzo ball recipe that I didn't try for about two years, because tofu in matzo balls just sounded weird, but then I finally tried it this past Pesach, and it was incredibly good.) Also, depending on the recipe, sometimes apple sauce or mashed banana make good egg replacers, but if you're using those, that cuts the amount of fat in the recipe way down and if you're not careful, whatever you're cooking will stick to the pan.

For things like scrambled eggs, there's scrambled tofu, which tastes different, but still tastes good. (My mom says she likes scrambled tofu better than scrambled eggs -- she always orders it when we're at a restaurant that serves it.)

Now that my shoulder has finally stopped hurting, my ankle has started. Really, this is just getting annoying. Can I not have a pain-free body for two days in a row?

Thanks for the info, Hil.

And sorry you're in pain.

"We're all stories, in the end. Just make it a good one, eh?"

Good thoughts and vibeyness for Burrell, and anyone in pain.

The weather is really boring here. I'm waiting for some spring sunshine. I'm just getting clouds and chilly wind. Come on sun - I want to do my reading out on a terrace.

Accidentally took a double dose of Lyrica last night. I just temporarily forgot I'd already taken it. Oops. I'm rather drowsy, but seem to be OK otherwise!

Can I not have a pain-free body for two days in a row?

I'm with you. My back is now being ridiculous, and painkillers at the dose I need would knock me out when I'm working to a deadline, so that's out. I'm wondering whether I can find a therapeutic massage somewehere around here (I usually have them at home in London - here I mostly stay on campus, so the town is a bit of a mystery to me). I should really look into it before I cant't move anymore...

Have you tried TENS, Seska? It's pretty much the only thing that I've found that helps and doesn't knock me out or make me feel sick.
